    Another Q about this '71 9.5hp

Stop!! Cam is not spring loaded on a 9.5. Pushing it down when not aligned will probably break it.

    I’m at a loss - Evinrude 40

Hm.m.m.., now I got myself thinking. Any chance somebody has been re-engineering that motor? Something like bigger or different carburetors, dinking with the intake/exhaust ports, or something else to make it a go-faster model?

    I’m at a loss - Evinrude 40

Judging by your picture, you look to be 65-70 years younger than me. That's good. You have a great future ahead of you. Do you have any goals? Enginering maybe? Back to the motor, I still say there is nothing wrong with it. There's no problem with trying to improve it though.

    1957 Johnson 18hp.

Yes they did/do, and that likely is the slipping problem Is this a new problem? How long have you had this boat?

    I’m at a loss - Evinrude 40

Somehow, I just knew it had a whale tail on it. Previous owner put it on there for just this reason--to get the stern end up out of the water. I watched your video a couple dozen times. That boat is porpoising and throwing water all over the place. Motor finally picks up speed when the prop...

    I’m at a loss - Evinrude 40

Motor sounds good. Have you tried anything to reduce the porpoising? It seems to take off once the boat stops bouncing in and out of the water.

Need info for 1961 5.5 HP Johnson CD-18

You wouldn't get that much water from the carbon seal. Gotta be a serious leak somewhere. But you said it runs great. I dunno where it came from. Your spark plugs type and gap are close enough. Not an issue. Somebody may have put lubriplate grease in lower unit. Recheck after running a...

Need info for 1961 5.5 HP Johnson CD-18

Pay attention to what the video says about the carbon seal on the driveshaft. If the seal doesn't do its job, water leaks into the powerhead. Slow leak that won't be noticed. Until the motor throws a rod. People then look at the damage and say it tossed the rod because of lack of oil. Nah...

1972 Johnson 65 selectric lower swap

OK, so I got you to consider doing an electric test first. That was my only aim. You are basically correct in your understanding of how it works. But why it doesn't work is important too. First, you referred to it as "Selectric". That is Evinrude's version. Johnson's were "Hydro-Electric"...

    Impeller Replacement 66' Johnson 40hp

Wow, I would have thought you-tube would be crawling with that topic. Not so. At least I couldn't find any. So, are you looking for a step-by-step? That would take a bit of typing. As mentioned, is it long shaft or short shaft? I assume it is manual shift (Super Sea Horse). Let us know...

1972 Johnson 65 selectric lower swap

I8 I knew you would say something like that. What gets me is that people will balk at a simple 5 minute job to test and verify.

1972 Johnson 65 selectric lower swap

Tommy, I think it is a mistake to assume the problem is in the lower unit. I wouldn't tear into one without using a jumper wire to bypass the external electrical system as a diagnostic test.

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

I searched for the "vapor pressure of water". What I found should keep y'all busy awhile: The vapour pressure of water is the pressure exerted by molecules of water vapor in gaseous form (whether pure or in a mixture with other gases such as air). The saturation vapour pressure is the pressure...

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

Old cars with carburetors had intake manifold heat riser valves to transfer some heat from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. In the army, I had responsibility for a gasoline engine powered generator. Under certain conditions, that thing's carburetor would freeze up into a solid block...
