Deck padding for Sunfish or similar sit-on-deck dinghies?

They make padded sailing shorts but the aren’t cheap.

    Mounting Trolling Motor

Just spitballing here, but would it be possible to rig a removable bracket for the trolling motor off one side of the boat? The other thing to consider is your battery capacity. Running the trolling motor from your primary power source probably isn’t the best idea. Even my little 14’ jonboat...

    My tachometer killed the engine!

Yeah, he suggested that I carry a spare Pertronix module just in case, and pickup a pair of distributor caps as PVM. Funny thing, I’d already bought a pair of tachs because the current ones were getting flaky.

    My tachometer killed the engine!

34’ twin Crusader 270 inboards. Spent the day anchored at a popular spot. No issues getting there, but as I was leaving the marina the starboard engine stalled. No biggie, probably the idle set a bit low. She started right back up. 9 hours later preparing to leave, starboard engine cranked but...

    Marine Max data breach?

Got a letter from them about a ‘cybersecurity incident’ that happened on 3/10/24 and my personal info was compromised. The thing is- I don’t think I’ve EVER bought anything directly from them. Doesn‘t smell right to me. Anybody else receive this letter?

MerCruiser v8 350 installed, exhaust note options

Years ago I installed “Captains Call” thru-hull diverters on my Wellcraft 23 Nova XL. Even with me doing all the work it was stupid expensive, and when switched to quiet (through the prop) it was noticably louder than stock. No performance improvement at all (small block GM). Wasted money IMO...

    Replacing bulbs with LED

Be careful, nav lamps are required to be USCG approved and most LED’s are not. Chances are slim you’d get called on ‘em, but it’s possible. https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/DCO%20Documents/5p/CG-5PC/INV/Alerts/1015.pdf

    Bilge blower question.

So you’ve confirmed the positive side is good. Leave it connected to the blower. Check the negative side by using a jumper directly from the negative battery terminal to the negative side of the switch.

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

Boating at night is a completely different experience than most people realize. Personally, I enjoy it immensely- on a clear, moonlit night with the proper tools (nav lighting, VHF, sounder, GPS, radar, spotlight). I’ve run my current boat in the ICW overnight and was comfortable. Slow is the...

    A/c not pumping water

I used a plastic T and shut-off valve from Home Depot with hose clamps. Garden hose adapter at the end, simple. The marine A/C system is not self- priming so if the water lines get any air inside it won’t work. My setup simply removes any air.

    A/c not pumping water

I just pinch the discharge line with vice grips, and yes, some water will get past it and exit the higher thru hull.

    A/c not pumping water

What alldodge said. i was losing A/C prime frequently, so I added a T in the intake line with a hose connection and shutoff valve. When prime is lost I turn A/C off and hook a water hose up, pinch the discharge line, and turn water on for 20 seconds. It will backflush and remove any air in the...

Where to Find Kohler 5E Generator Motor Mount / Fuel Pump bracket

I have a 5e sitting in my shed, but it’s buried under a LOT of other gear. I was able to snap this picture. I know it’s not exactly what you need but maybe you can use the measuring tape and scale it.

    CLR salt removal experiment

My boat (twin engine inboard) lived in a saltwater environment for 20 years before I bought it. She passed survey and looked great considering her age. After bringing her home (490 miles by water), I decided to pull the manifolds and risers to check for corrosion. Surprisingly, I found some but...

Does anyone remember when car & boat engines only had.

When I turned 16, custom vans were popular but I couldn’t afford one, so my very first “car” was a ‘67 Chevy Carryall (Suburban) with the 283 and 2 speed powerglide. Put huge chrome rims and TigerPaw tires on it, along with astroturf in the back. The girls seemed to like it!

Does anyone remember when car & boat engines only had.

My 1970 Chevy C10. Upgraded to electronic ignition, serpentine belt system, and R134. Yes, the A/C works. Single Holley 600.
