Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

That's not really an option for me, the main place I am looking at moving to is a 17-hour drive away so taking a day trip isn't possible so just trying to figure out how much boat I need before I spend too much money traveling to check out the area more. I'm still in the idea phase of things.

Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

Interesting about the job switch and how that worked out. For me I'm remote so thankfully I will never have to deal with location changes so I'm trying to find a spot that is a good one long term and settle down there instead of my last few years of moving every 12 months (or less). Picking the...

Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

I have been looking at some ~25-30ft and they seem not bad, though I do worry that a windy day is a no boating day compared to where I am now it is just a crappy day on the water.

Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

I am looking at moving cities/provinces and the areas I am looking don't exactly have much for inland lakes like I am used to. I'm hoping to get some different opinions on what kind of boating I would be looking at for a mix of enjoyment (cruising, tubing, skiing, etc) and fishing on either the...

What to look for in a project boat? Plus a few other questions

I've never owned an aluminum boat so forgive my ignorance, how do you attach the deck and seats to the hull if you don't weld on brackets?

What to look for in a project boat? Plus a few other questions

I have been tossing around the idea of building a project boat for fishing since I would like a project to work on as well as want a fishing boat of my own (currently use my fathers but seeing as I will be moving in 2-3 years it won't be close anymore). I have done a transom replacement before...

Updating the motor on an old boat

I'd love to buy him the engine he wants though likely not something we will go for, mainly because of the fact that he doesn't want to learn to take proper care of the engine.

Updating the motor on an old boat

I'd love to buy it back from him though he won't let me even offering to pay 2x what he paid me for it. As for what all he would want to be done, he likes the boat just has the idea that an older engine is not reliable enough and should upgrade it.

Updating the motor on an old boat

Oh yes very much operator error on his part, I spoke to him again explaining it was not just me who thought the issues this summer were his issues not the motor (I showed him this post) and is still convinced the motor is bad and needs replacement. I'm hoping that if we don't replace it this...

Updating the motor on an old boat

Thanks for the detailed response, a few things, the motor is a 1984 Mercury so I am not sure where it sits on the rating but it currently has enough power. My father is the one who wants less on it than it already has. As for the older being more reliable if maintaned, I know they are solid...

Updating the motor on an old boat

Currrently it has an 80 or 85 on it, I don't remember. I think the boat goes slow for 80hp but the engine is old so probably not putting out much HP compared to what it should. His goal for power/speed is enough to get on plane in 6 inch chop and go into a headwind.

Updating the motor on an old boat

Bit of an off spot, my father now owns my old boat but he is not happy with the enigne being old and leaving him/us stranded a few times. Last summer he said he wanted a new engine on it, was thinking a 5 year old engine. I am not sure this is possible since the boat is a 1977 Crestliner...

Where do you get your boat news?

Not exactly what I am looking for but yes everyone should try to be active in their local boating community.

Where do you get your boat news?

I am looking to find more sources for boat news that others think are good. I have found a bunch of sites but most of them seem to be mainly small and not updated much. What sites do you use to get your boating news? I mainly watched different YouTube channels before but seems most of them are...

What to have done for summer prep on near new boat

I bought a new glastron GT 185 with the 200HP 4.5L Merc last year and ran it for the season for just under 20 hours. Last fall I had them winterize the boat, that included (according to invoice) shrink wrap, winterization (assume fluid?), changes oil and filter, added fuel stabilizer, changed...

    Puppy on the boat

Hey all, I've got a bit of a delima, I recently got a new puppy (lab) and I'd like to have it so he could come out on the boat with us as it's normal for me to spend from 8 am to 7pm away from the apartment and I'd rather not leave him alone that long doesn't seem fair. I have a 2018 Glastron...

    Trailer coupler lock

I'm wondering what a good trailer couple lock would be. I know that depends on the coupler, mine takes a 1/4" pin thru it, I found one on Princess A u t o that went thru and a lock slide onto it. That worked fine for about 3 trips till I fell and it bent so badly I had to break it off. I'm...

    Checking for damage

Over the weekend I took out my Glastron GT 185 (bowrider) and the waves were less than pleasant ever at slow speeds. I tried to keep up with the other boats of similar size and type but could not do the 35 mph they were, I settled in at 23-25 after doing 35 and taking a hell of a beating for 5...

Difference between the 4.5L 200 vs 250 HP

I was wondering what the differences between the Merc 4.5L 200 vs the 4.5L 250 HP? I have a new boat with it and was wondering if you could modify it like you could with the old outboard to get to the higher HP on the same engine block. Hope that makes sense... Monday morning thoughts are still...
