    Either way works. The difference is connect it to the switched side of the switch if you want power disconnected to it while the boat is being stored. Otherwise connect it directly to the battery if your not concerned about any current draw and it being "hot" while not in use.

    "Could it be the way new ignition switch was installed ?" Most likly it is the issue but by not seeing it I would be guessing. It shoud be easy to find the problem with the voltmeter.

    Get a voltmeter and start tracing the 12 volts from the fuse box thru the switch to the radio. First check the fuse.

    I had the same issue with an old boat I had years ago. " I can only pump 8 gallons into my 19 gallon tank" this is your issue not pumping gas out. Fill the tank as much as you can at the gas station, your 8 gallons. Then fill a couple gas cans, go home. Detach the trailer from your tow vehicle...

    Go back and measure the voltage at the battery while cranking the motor to confirm the voltage is stable at 12.7ish and not dropping.

    It doesn't sound like you have a short, you have an intermittent open. Most likely a loose or corroded connection. Shouldn't be too difficult to find.

    If the boat has two oil tanks confirm both are full and the floats/sender moves freely. Most likely not a temp issue if it alarms as soon as you start the motor.

    Usually hi temp or low on 2 stroke oil. Is your outboard a 2 or 4 stroke? Did the alarm shut off when the motor stared?

    measure the voltage at the starter while cranking the motor. The voltage may be too low to fully engage the solonoid/bendix gear

    make sure you have all of the required safety equipment and a working VHF. Don't worry about saltwater as long as your motor gets flushed with fresh water at the and of your trip.
