You have a motor that does not perform, but insist that the shop fixed it. Don't know how to help you.

    evinrude spark issue

Should have full continuity on each plug wire, spring clip to spring clip. If not, rebuild the wires (replace the wire and the spring clip, and check again for continuity.)

89 Johnson get 200 no top end power

You need to measure the compression (screw in style tester that you can borrow or rent), and measure spark at each lead with a proper tester (not the inline type). Post your findings.

    evinrude spark issue

must use an open air adjustable spark tester, not the inline type. The engine has to turn over at 250+ rpm to fire up the engine. You may have a weak battery or a starter that needs to be cleaned/rebuilt.

    Evinrude 35HP Outboard

Run it in a deep test barrel -- plastic trash can is good, with water about half way up the leg. Sounds pretty good on 2. Let it run for five or ten minutes in gear at idle, checking temp on top of head. When warmed up, adjust the idle mix screw for best running (1/8 turn at a time). Adjust...

Use the screw in attachment in the kit. For testing at home, use a plastic trash can, with water about half way up the motor leg. Can't tell much running on muffs.

    Evinrude 35HP Outboard

Seem to have water in the pan -- may need a head gasket, thermostat cover gasket, or a powerhead gasket. (Maybe another explanation?) Get a cheap open air spark tester (adjustable) from an auto parts store -- think Lisle co. makes them. Don't get the inline closed type.

    1960 15032

Shoot. I have a couple of the cheapies that have seemed to work OK. Door67 -- I would mess with the air mix a bit before replacing or rebuilding the pump. But do the bulb test that Crosbyman suggests.

top needle 1 1/2 turns open from lightly closed; 1/2 to 3/4 for the bottom needle (initial settings, subject to fine tuning). Motor should start and warm up with these settings.

1985 Evinrude 185, 2 stroke, Engine shut off at idle (help)

Any overheating on your watch? should run at around 140F on top of heads -- change out the impeller anyway, as it's a new motor to you. When you pull off heads to check for scoring, refinish the mating surfaces and install new gaskets whenever you get ready to put it together.
