Opinion on types of starting batteries

All good info. I'm leaning toward just replacing them with the same size and type. It seems the opinion is that the AGM is not really worth it. These two batteries lasting at least 8 years that I know of, I think that's a pretty good track record.

    Running new speaker wire

True. You can wire the whole boat in a few hours and it's not difficult. Reminds me of the outdoor security cameras. They still need power. Although there are some now that have batteries that last a pretty long time.

What is the best easiest way to clean hull?

I was working in a hospital. We were building a new lab. It was an empty existing room with walls and finished ceiling. Some Bozo safety guy from one of those big contractors who's company name I won't mention, insisted we wear reflective vests. Inside, in a finished room! I asked him if he...

What is the best easiest way to clean hull?

I hear you on all points. I used to test for 120 volts with my thumb and index finger! Pretty dumb huh? Now everything needs to be shut off, locked out and you're the only one with the key. This is definitely a good thing! The dumbest requirement I had to comply with was wearing a full...

What is the best easiest way to clean hull?

Good point. That's the difference between pouring a little into your toilet, a quick brushing, then flush and spreading a large quantity over a large surface.

    Re- Rewiring boat

I changed whatever I could over to LED. Less current draw, very bright and they last almost forever. I found equivalent LED bulbs for mostly every fixture on the boat. Direct replacements and no drivers or any other wiring woes.

Opinion on types of starting batteries

Wet cell, AGM....which should I get next Spring? Replace with same size? (Group 27) I looked around throughout the forums, but can't find any discussions on the subject. I thought there would be a sticky for this....maybe there is, but I couldn't find it. 4.3L (2003) Mercruiser. I have...

My gauge cluster was stolen from me

Pretty easy to remove the whole thing on my boat. I can probably do it in less than two minutes. Even quicker if you just cut all the wires instead of neatly disconnecting them. 5 or 6 screws and yank or just cut the wires. Did they hack up the wires or unplug them nicely?

    Running new speaker wire

This got me thinking. With all the wireless (mostly bluetooth) home speakers these days, do they make some that will work in a boat? I dont see why not. I dont see what the difference would be besides maybe being a bit more resistant to moisture.

Perko switch question (1 engine 2 battery)

Yep, and that automotive battery cable is most likely not of the marine variety, so it should probably be completely changed anyway. Marine wire is tinned throughout it's entire length. You can buy a custom cable with the ends already terminated. There are online sites that will make it up...

    Need a noise diagnosed…

Does it sound like the water pump? Like grinding bearings or a knocking noise? Are there drips of water coming out of the weep hole on the water pump?

What is the best easiest way to clean hull?

Yep, the problem with common sense... It's not so common anymore. I come from a career in construction. Where safety has been drilled into us constantly. I mentioned PPE because many other have not had that training. It's amazing some of the [avoidable] dangerous things we did 40 years...

How to fasten clear vinyl sheets to plastic lattice?

Ok, got it up. I didn't think staples would penetrate, much less hold in the plastic lattice, but they did! That lattice is a sort of soft plastic, so the staples worked. It's funny because I had previously thought about staples, but didn't think they would work at all. My wife asked about...

Help with Battery issues after stereo install

I understand that we are speaking very generally here. There are charts for this. Yes, a 14 gauge wire can handle 15 amps as a general rule, but.... There are many variables, of course and the wire needs to be derated accordingly and a larger gauge may be needed. Voltage, amperage...

1973 Sea Ray 190 Fuel Tank Location

Can't you just follow the big fuel fill hose and the carburetor feed line to locate the fuel tank? Should be under the deck just forward of the engine, as stated by @Chris1956

What is the best easiest way to clean hull?

In my case, I was slipped in fresh water. No anti foul paint, just bare fiberglass. There was all kinds of stuff stuck to the hull. I couldn't believe how much there was. Algae, green, brown and some weird jelly clumps, I dont think they were eggs. After I scrubbed all the heavy junk off...

    Small cheap roof for storage?

Speaking of a wooden gantry....you can have as many legs as needed depending on the length of your boat, how much of a span you want between them or maybe how strong you want it.

    Small cheap roof for storage?

You're also fighting critters that want nest in your cozy boat.

    Gear Lube Hose

Let us know how you make out. I don't think there will be much you can "move". You'll just have to squeeze your body in there and hopefully you can reach at least one hand/arm in there.

    Small cheap roof for storage?

This works real well... I've seen people use lumber to erect a gantry and cover that with a big tarp. The frame basically resembling the frame of a kids swing set. A long 2x6 or 2x8 (on end) for the top, the length of the boat and two triangular ends with horizontal braces. Big rocks can hold...
