Would Smart Tabs help with the pounding?

Another thread sparked my interest in Smart Tabs. I thought the pounding was normal when "hitting" wakes and just basically choppy water. But talk of Smart Tabs has sparked my interest. I searched here and read some things, but have some questions. 2003 Bayliner 185 (18.5 ft) with...

Draining The Oil On My 470?

I use a universal oil extractor. It's hose gets pushed down through the dipstick tube into the oil. It has a hand pump that initiates the suction and the oil gets transferred into the extractor's tank. No oily mess and easy to use. I think it's called Topsider. It's a blue metal tank/pump...

4.3L Merc 2bbl w/ thunderbolt IV ignition. Still wont start.

The newer ignition sensors have a third wire that is black and indeed it is the ground. The old one got it's ground from the mounting screws, thats why it only had two wires. The other two wires from the sensor connect to their prospective wires from the Thunderbolt main box. I just matched...

Remote Control for Alpha 1 Gen 2

Yep, practice, practice. And when docking, keep your speed down to as slow as possible. Coast in, if possible. All you need is tiny corrections to get it to go where you want. Try to compensate for wind and current. Dont fight the wind and current. Use them to your advantage. Dont feel...

    MerCruiser 4.3 Clutch/Neutral

Mine has the button. I push the button while moving the lever forward, which basically gives you neutral, then I start it. You can now vary the throttle in neutral for as long as you want or at whatever RPM you desire. When you move the lever back to the center, the button snap back out and you...

    Boat keeps porpoising.

I don't mean to hijack the thread. But, the talk about beating you up (rough ride), got me wondering. Can trim tabs help with that? My 2003 Bayliner 185 bow rider 4.3L can get a bit rough when running on plane, due to chop from wind and wakes. I just figured it's a normal by-product due to...

    Boat keeps porpoising.

It's possible a prop change may help. I'm no expert on props, so l won't even begin to guess. Hopefully the experts will chime in soon. Are you giving it enough throttle to get it out of the hole and on plane? You need to goose it until it levels off, then you can lower the throttle to find...

    Trailer brake system opinions

I pull my breakaway battery for the winter and keep it on a maintainer, as I do with all my batteries.

    Boat keeps porpoising.

Does it ever get up on plane and flatten out? Has the boat always behaved like this or is this a new to you boat?

Older Boats Not Welcome at Lake George, NY

Yeah, I guess the whole thing would be too much to list. There would be so many lakes, rivers, bays, shorelines, etc. to cover, it would be impossible.

Older Boats Not Welcome at Lake George, NY

We should have a sticky on boat launches. A State-by-State list. It would be an immense undertaking to create that list, but we might be able to achieve it with member input.

    Trailer brake system opinions

I switched from surge to all electric and would never go back. I was able to use my existing drums. I had to add a breakaway kit with a backup battery. It's pretty cool. It gets charged whenever the trailer is connected to the truck. Had change to a 7-pin (round) plug. I bought a kit...

Rotor Distributor Cap 4.3L EFI 1998

If you are referring to gluing the rotor, I'd say some engineer went just a little overboard when it came to the marine-ness of the situation, if you get my drift. Wink wink!

Rotor Distributor Cap 4.3L EFI 1998

I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel. But I was EXTREMELY careful as not to cut into the distributor shaft. I made some scores in the plastic and broke the rest off with pliers and screwdriver.

Fuel Pump Diaphragm Rupture Hose Type?

I wouldn't use vacuum hose for fuel. That sounds like a terrible idea.
