Would Smart Tabs help with the pounding?

Yeah, it's the women that suffer the most. We men are flat chested.

Alpha one Outdrive Trim motor works sporadically. Solenoid issue?

Very common problem. The contacts in the solenoid either get corroded or burnt out, causing a bad connection. I replaced both my solenoids 4-5 years ago. My drive would randomly not go up, so I just replaced them both while my body was contorted in there. Label all the wires before you...

    3.7 mercrusier 165 horse engine

Geeze....so maybe the previous owner replaced the starter with the wrong one and the engine is cranking in the wrong direction. He couldn't find the "problem" (that he created), so he sold the boat. I hope it's that simple for the OP, so he can just swap it out and go boating!

Would Smart Tabs help with the pounding?

Totally makes sense. Although Bayliners are shunned by many, our 2003 BR 185 with the 4.3L Alpha 1 Gen 2 has been very good to us. We are the third owner and have owned it for 8 years. We keep it in our garage during the off season and during the boating season it's kept in our driveway. I keep...

Hope this is the problem. That would be awesome! Keep us posted.

    3.7 mercrusier 165 horse engine

I'd like to follow this. Are there starters that spin left hand and ones that turn right hand? Could that be the problem? The starter spinning the wrong way? I never gave that thought. I never heard of an engine cranking in the wrong direction. I guess it's possible.

Would Smart Tabs help with the pounding?

You make sense. And I didn't know that their self leveling ones could be upgraded to helm control. It gives you a chance to try the automatic ones and if you're not satisfied, just upgrade. Cool. I see your point. My 2003 Bayliner is in very nice condition. It may not be one of the...

Great day on the boat, then ran aground.....What to have checked?

The lake we boat at is used to generate power. They are constantly drawing down water throughout the season. In the Spring, the water level is high from the Winter thaw. But by September, you better know where the hazards are lurking since the water level is so low by then. Many boats are...

Great day on the boat, then ran aground.....What to have checked?

That must have been a scary experience. Thank goodness no one was hurt, both in the boat and on the tube. I dont even want to think about what those rocks could have done to those on the tube. Get the boat fixed and be careful. Do a couple of practice runs at idle to get a better idea what...

Would Smart Tabs help with the pounding?

Yeah, I looked up the Bennetts, they are really nice. But, as you implied, for my 18 year old boat, a bit pricey.

Crank but want start Mercruiser 5.7

Go through that troubleshooting flow chart in post #4, it is an invaluable tool. My emergency lanyard switch once got accidentally tripped without my knowledge. The engine would crank and hiccup like it was almost going to start.

Power Trim Help on 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 will go down but not up HELP!

I once had a problem where the drive would not trim up. I replaced the solenoids and all was fine. There are two. One for up, one for down. Blue (like the sky) wire is up and green (like the grass) is down. My boat does not have a separate trailer position switch. It's integrated into the...

    Boat Manual

Normally you won't find much of a boat manual, it's not like a car or truck in that respect. You might get lucky though. The manufacturer may have archived documentation on their website, if they're still in business. I was lucky with my Bayliner. Their site had all that info for my 2003...

Draining The Oil On My 470?

Great idea! Use a female/male coupling to extend the threads high enough to clear that inner tube.

Would Smart Tabs help with the pounding?

Thanks all! I thought I found a miracle fix, but I guess not! I'll just keep doing what I've been doing, slow down when those conditions occur. And yes, the drive is trimmed all the way in to keep the bow down as best as possible. I wish it would trim in more! Thanks for that mention Jim...

Thanks for the info! I thought there was a chance that Smart Tabs may help, but I guess not. I guess it's just the nature of the beast. Thanks again!

Would Smart Tabs help with the pounding?

Thanks for the reply. I'm no speed demon and yes, I mostly just slow down and adjust my angle. Every once in a while I like to open it up a bit. I'll just keep those desires to super calm days. I mostly just either idle around or get up on plane and cruise at the minimum speed to keep on...
