Tip for reinstalling outdrive lower solo

Innovated idea! Sometimes, when you're by yourself, you have to improvise. I too have only pulled the drive as a whole, as @Grub54891 stated. I made a wooden stand that I sit the whole thing on. When I use the stand, I'll put a moving dolly under it to roll the whole thing around. There are...

    87’ Stingray w/Merc 3.0

Not sure what you meant by pushing the throttle button. If you mean the big button on the throttle controller that engages neutral, I hope you are also moving the handle forward as you press the button. Just checking.... I'll leave your flooding question in the very capable hands of @achris

    New member, first boat

Nice! Those Starcraft row boats are fantastic, especially for fishing. You can't beat those aluminum hulls. They seem to last forever and are easily freshened up if neccessary. Enjoy the memories of your grandpa while you're out fishing!

Surge Brake Actuator - latch went over and is now stuck

Sorry, I can't help you. I'm sure the experts will chime in soon. My personal experience... I got fed up with my surge brakes and switched to all electric brakes. Mine are drum brakes and I only boat in fresh water. My actuator was so noisy, I couldn't stand it. I hated all that slapping...

    Oil change question

I don't want hijack this thread, but I use that very same Topsider and it works very well. Your idea of adding that threaded hose connection looks like a great improvement to an already great tool. Thanks!

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

I wouldn't change the lower shift cable alone, but if I were doing a complete bellows job on a 1998 boat, I would change that cable while I'm in there.

The ultimate main thing is safety. Make sure the boat is safe and you have a good handle on things before taking on passengers. Things can get real ugly real quick.

Too much to list. Click the link to that sticky in my last post. Post #57. A lot to read there. Scroll down to find threads pertaining to your setup. There's also a section that lists the tools needed for specific jobs. And sections on fabricating homemade tools. The stickies are an amazing...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

When I did mine, I bought a whole kit with most of special tools needed. There are some you can fabricate. Details are in the stickies, the yellow area above each section. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/must-have-technical-information-for-diyers-an-work-safe-search-version-of.335378/

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

If you are doing the bellows and gimbal bearing yourself, you'll need a few specialty tools and the step by step manual from Mercruiser. It's not an easy task for a first timer. I did my first and only one a few years ago. It was a bit challenging. Flexible ratchet extensions were helpful...

They started the gen 2 in 1991. Since it's a 1998, I guess you do indeed have an Alpha 1 Gen 2.

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

Pretty puzzling that one bellows kit is only $72 and the OEM kit is $236, huh? Everywhere I look, the prices are around that $236 mark. For $72, I'd stay away...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

Those might be the correct ones, but their descriptions are too vague. Unless you are armed with the correct part numbers, I wouldn't risk it. Here's what I would suggest: Use your drive's serial number to find the exact part numbers needed. That's the most guaranteed way to get a match...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

I'm not sure if this was stated or not.... I looked back and can't find it or more than likely I missed it....was it confirmed that you have a Alpha 1 Gen 2?

gm v6 one bank of cylinders not firing

With the use of the word "marinizer", I thought for sure it was you! Ha! It's nice the mods are paying attention and helping to clarify things for better results. Back on subject... I think we scared the OP away. That's unfortunate on his part. We can still help if he would provide the...
