    New suntracker throttle problem

That's very strange. The button is pushed in and the handle forward doesn't enable you to increase the rpms in neutral. I have no idea. How are you starting it? With the handle centered? Maybe that's the way it is with modern fuel injection? But you should still be able to rev it a bit if...

    New suntracker throttle problem

I have no idea what controller you have or how it operates, but I can tell you how mine works. Yours might be completely different, I don't know. Here goes... When I want to start my engine there's a big button in the center of the controller that I press and hold while I move the handle...

gm v6 one bank of cylinders not firing

Yeah, I have a good idea who it was by the choice of words. Good edit from the Grumpy old guy who plays with boats! But thanks for confirming I'm not crazy. Uh, well, maybe that doesn't confirm that I'm not crazy...or senile...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

Personally, I would stick to OEM when it comes to bellows. Bellows are too important to me to use aftermarket. I'd be concerned with quality and fitment.

gm v6 one bank of cylinders not firing

Hey mods.... Did someone edit my post (post #10)? In the last paragraph, I didn't write that ending. No big deal, it was a good edit. I don't believe spell check could have worded it that good! Just wondering if I was going crazy!

gm v6 one bank of cylinders not firing

Oh boy.... I just finish reading through that thread for newbies! @frank1492 , don't get discouraged. There are some really helpful geniuses here, but they get frustrated when someone asks too general of a question. There are many GM based engines used in boats. And each of them have had...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

Just as a note...no water will enter your boat if the exhaust bellows fails. It's the other two that can sink your boat. The u-joint bellows and that tiny shifter bellows. That being said... You might have realized from the conversation that you need to do some preventative maintenance...

Bow of boat hits winch when loading onto trailer

Thanks for the explanation! That's cool that you move the winch from trailer to trailer. I'd like to see that Bonneville! I was a Pontiac guy back in the day. My Mom had a '64 Catalina. Man that car was something! It was a beast with that 389. The power brakes and steering were crazy...

Bow of boat hits winch when loading onto trailer

Nice! Just push a button. Cool! I never had an electric trailer winch. What feeds the winch? Does it have it's own battery? If so, what keeps it charged? My breakaway battery gets charged whenever the trailer harness is plugged into my truck. Does it work that way? Or maybe it's wired to...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

No, my boat is completely dry. Not bad for an 18 year old boat. No mildew between the covers either. The top cover claims to be trailerable, so it has vents toward the stern which are hooded. Kind of backward scoops. So, I guess there's some bit of air circulation. I have trailored with that...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

Your question on how to remove the engine oil.... There are many devices that you can use to suck the oil out of the dipstick tube. I use a thing called Topsider. It's a blue metal tank with a hand pump on it. Once you get the suction started with the hand pump, the oil transfers on it's...

Even with the trailer tongue jack lowered? Really?

Bow of boat hits winch when loading onto trailer

I figured it worked that way. It would be an awful mess if the spool reversed too! Thanks for the explanation.

    Hey Newbies

I think this was mentioned... The reference that the person is familiar with or considers him/herself to be a decent automotive mechanic. It's true that some things are similar between automotive and marine engines, but they are more so (like they say), like apple's and oranges. I'm into...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

That's way too much water in your bilge. My 18 ft bow rider's bilge is bone dry and has been like that all season. Granted, it's only us two old fogies just taking a swim once in a while. Your problem is either a leak or it's from rain intrusion. Your boat needs to be protected from rain...

    Fuse Box (Quick Question)

We can't really give you an answer without being there to test it. Very simple to check it. Use a multimeter, 12 volt tester or a simple 12 volt test light to see when your fuse panel is hot, key on/off and battery switch on/off.

Bow of boat hits winch when loading onto trailer

Just wondering... If the handle reverses when switching gears, does the spool still crank in the same direction? I assume the spool is not affected, just the handle reverses. Am I assuming correctly? I would think it would be a total mess if the spool reversed too.

    Vinyl cleaner?

Whatever you decide to use, make sure it doesn't contain ammonia. Ammonia will turn your nice white vinyl yellow.

1993 mercruiser 4.3lx dies after a few minutes

Is there a filter stone or strainer at the carb fuel inlet? That could also be clogging up. If there's no clog in the fuel lines and components, couldn't the carb have some blockage or problems with the float or it's needle?
