    1060 Evinrude fisherman 5.5hp

You are assuming that there is a leak, but you really need to be pressure testing first to confirm the presence of a leak, and -- importantly -- to find out where it is. This is a DIY job if you have a bicycle pump, a spray bottle and some dishwasher liquid.

...but my reference to diesel engine soot is misleading. If your gearcase oil is getting fouled, the source could be from a past leak that allowed dirty nasties from the leg to enter. The source could also be from a current leak. Don't recall whether you pressure and vacuum tested the...

Maybe the gearcase was not fully drained, giving you black oil soon after filling with clean. The diesel cars I drove for years had this feature -- not an issue of incomplete draining, but just soot in diesel engines. You might try filling the case with some inexpensive transmission oil to...

    87 johnson 30 throttle help

The first one is an old style, as pointed out. It is usable with the adjustable cables, however. Cable is placed vertically with the clip behind the adjustment wheel, then rotated in place with cable in the hooks. The clamp typically attaches to the pan of the motor. Second one is an old...

The newest float valve needles have a black neoprene tip, which is intended to make for a better seal in the valve. But it can stick in the valve. So it comes with a small wire clip that hooks around a machined pimple on the needle, with the other end around the float arm (which lifts out the...

Domed caps expand when tapped into place. Some use nail polish as a last step to make sure there is a seal. Soak the top of that carb, with the nozzle in place.

    Compression check

Low, but might improve if you can get it up and running. My 9.9s are in the 120s. Might try another tester. Test with both plugs out, and pull it over until the needle stops rising. Note the reading. Throttle position is not a factor, btw.

Nicely done! Sounds pretty good to me. Might tweak the idle needle mix a little to dial it in -- think it might smooth out if just a tad leaner (clockwise). It's hard to tell if they are running on both cylinders, so might check that. (Pull off plug wires one at a time and see if there is a...

Consistently sharp, 1/4" spark on each, then. yes? If you already replaced points, condensers and coils, try readjusting points (0.020). Clean them first with some acetone on a piece of cardboard (matchbook cover works well). Wires and connectors might also be due. 7mm OD with wire inner core.
