    88 Special Carbs

I would disassemble and soak at least the carb tops (disassembly including four core plugs -- replacements included in kits -- and the top cover for the idle channels). You need something that will dissolve fuel varnish. Finish with carb spray in every opening. I would at least spray the four...

think it's closer to fitting than you describe, though. Try some dishwashing liquid on the plug.

8hp Johnson water out of exhaust

Use of choke cleaner (?) indicates to me that that the carb may need cleaning. +1 on an exhaust blockage. Pull off the l.u. and use a flashlight to look up in the leg. It's a favorite for mouse nests, wasp nests, etc. Might be able to troubleshoot and clean w/o disassembly.

    1060 Evinrude fisherman 5.5hp

Think I would clean the points, at least, before trying to fire it up. Use a piece of cardboard (matchbook cover or similar), dab some acetone or lacquer thinner on it (brake cleaner maybe) and run it through the points a couple of times. Crosbyman may have some thoughts.

    1987 johnson v4 110 cyl 4 not running

14/15mm spark is good. What was it that stopped working? (i.e., could be a bad plug wire or bad wire connection.)

Timing refers to spark timing with respect to piston position (eg. 4 degrees before top dead center), not the intensity of the spark.

    Reed question

That should be the reed (sometimes "reed petals" in motors with reeds shaped like flowers -- '50s 10hp, for example). You should have one on each side. A "problem with reeds" usually means that part of the reed is broken off, or the thin reed will not lay flat. Guessing, but you might find...

1963 Evinrude 75HP Low Speed Jet Carb Adjustment

Seafoam won't cure bad fuel in the tank. Switch to a portable tank with new line/pump/connectors -- or borrow a known good one. Empty old gas. Fill with a gal or two of fresh gas for testing. 2.56 oz 2-cycle per gallon.

    1976 Johnson 115 Rebuild/Upgrade Help

You are at a disadvantage if you do not know what that motor is capable of beforehand. A dirty or poorly cared for engine will give little clue as to what it might do if properly cleaned and prepped. If this motor can be repaired for what you want to do or spend, I would go for it, then decide...

    Binnacle mount omc

Don't see why conventional cables would not work on a mechanical shift outboard. If you could get the electricals set up, not sure what the issues are with the shift and throttle. Insufficient reach an issue, maybe?

1994 112 johnson spl. Will not idle.

In addition, tops have to come off carbs and idle channels cleaned individually. Carb spray and soft wire or sturdy mono. To test operation, you must have back pressure (muffs won't do).

    Bad voltage to starter

Disassemble the original starter (remove the long vertical bolts), taking care not to lose the springs at the bottom. Spray it with carb cleaner and let it dry. Check the brushes and springs (bottom) if worn or rusted, replace them. Bench test (good spare, potentially). Cable to your tested...

    1987 johnson v4 110 cyl 4 not running

If you measured spark with an open air tester, what did you get? Post results. edit. 2 high speed jets in the float chamber of each carb? both need cleaning. Top of carb (cover and gasket needs to be removed, and idle passages cleaned individually).
