    Johnson CD-12

(referred to powerhead gasket leak in #7, but could mean cylinder head I guess.)

    2001 225 optimax won't start

How much spark? Each measured with an open air device? Think I would check for continuity on each plug wire, end to end -- also might pull the flywheel and check for loose or damaged magnets.

shorter one is the h.s. needle (lower needle). Seat them lightly.

Evinrude angler 5hp hard to steer

Welcome aboard Chief. If it's a salt water motor, take some extra precautions before any disassembly -- soak bolts beforehand at a minimum.

    Johnson CD-12

^^unclear. Meant to say, likely no sealant required.

    Johnson CD-12

New gasket when the powerhead was removed to do the water pump work? Pull the powerhead and replace the gasket -- likely no sealant. Bolts have a torque value (84 inch lbs), and need to be installed using a circular pattern. Basically, a criss-cross pattern. Torque them half way, as with...

    1954 Evinrude 7516 Parts

I don't have a '54 manual, but try AOMCI to see if one of the other members has an OEM manual. Also might try Ebay -- parts manual perhaps, but chance of a service manual. Maybe this: http://boatinfo.no/lib/johnson/manuals/1922-1964johnson.html#/0

    Driveshaft into Gearcase 1990 4hp Evinrude E4RESR

Try rotating the prop counter clockwise by hand when dry shifting into gear (motor off). The bushing should install at the O-ring (O-ring should fit in a groove in the shift rod). A little marine grease on the shift rod might help -- new O-ring may be what you are feeling. There is a...

    1980 j25rcsa solenoid issue

Recommend a continuity tester that allows you to pierce the covering on a wire (simple type with a clip on one end and a spike on the other end. Uses a flashlight battery and a couple AA or 3A batteries). Is your solenoid a marine solenoid or automotive (cf. #12, above).

    No start and no tilt

Confess I can't follow your discussion. Did note reference to a negative fuse switch (fuses are always in a positive circuit). References to Bat.1/Bat.2 sounds like you are describing a battery selector switch, sometimes referred to as a "Perko" switch for one of the major manufacturers. Any...

    1980 j25rcsa solenoid issue

Try jumping the second small post on the solenoid to ground, then attempt to start (post used for the safety switch).

    Possible kill switch problem

I think that one has a water cooled regulator, so doubly important that the block isn't overheating. Might check that first with an IR tester at top of heads -- may be due/overdue for water pump work. Temp should be 130-140F (160F is too hot).

    propeller seal removal

If the issue is apparent leaking, smell the stuff to see if it's gas or gear oil. Gear oil has a sulphur smell. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

    Power pack or stator??

It's said that most carb problems turn out to be electrical issues. But sometimes it is a carb issue -- may need rebuild and tuning. Then there is the cooling system -- shouldn't hit 160F under load (change out impeller as first step). T.stat stuck open might mean the motor isn't warming to...

    Running on 2 cylinders

You can check which ones are firing by clamping a timing gun to each wire. No flash means there is no pulse going to the plug being tested. First fix imo is to make sure the clips are secure and that the wire inside is contacted by the clip. If you have a continuity tester, it is easy to test...

    1999 50hp Johnson 2 stroke won’t start

In your picture, it looks like the mount for the solenoid is contacting one of the small posts, which would presumably cause a short. (Pics have limits, of course.)

    1999 50hp Johnson 2 stroke won’t start

Sandpaper the wire connections, beginning with the main battery cables. Twist the ends of the main cables and listen for crunching sounds (rust).

1978 Johnson 15 stalls under load

Compression test as recommended. Popping a skier up takes more power than towing her around. Get an IR temp tester (surface temp at top of the head.)
