or just sell it as is, for a price that reflects condition.

    Hard Start 15 hp

This usually comes up with electric chokes -- lister claims they are sure the choke plate is closing because they hear the solenoid click. The usual advice is to use a finger to make sure the plate is tightly closed -- often a tough sell.

    Newbie Fuel line questions

Think you might want to find out where the leak is (hence a pressure test). Can do that yourself. Small pump, bottle of water and detergent, etc.

    Newbie Fuel line questions

Sounds like progress. Suggest you pressure test the gearcase before getting into seal replacement. Maybe you have done that.

    Hard Start 15 hp

No luck involved here. You are telling us that all was done correctly and it should run -- but it's not.

    1971 18HP Evinrude Fastwin

The domed caps cover the idle passages, and are important to starting and idling -- as is the fuel feed through the high speed orifice/jet. Soak metal parts in solvent, clean all passages with soft wire or monofilament, then spray with carb spray. Your '71 has an idle mixture needle on top...

    1971 18HP Evinrude Fastwin

You might remove the fuel pump hose at the carb, crank the motor and see if there is gas flow from your new pump. You absolutely need to measure spark to see if the magneto is producing like it should.

    Hard Start 15 hp

With the motor in neutral, twist the grip clockwise as far as it will go. That's the neutral stop. (In gear, the grip will twist all the way to WOT.) To clean the carb, you should remove all metal parts except linkages (throttle plate linkage, etc.) and soak them in solvent. If you have a...

    How to tilt 1985 9.9??

Have it on a stand/boat transom? Tilt pin needs to be in place (the rod and clip that you use to adjust the trim). When you lower the tilt and reverse lock lever (plastic handle -- sounds like you found that OK), a spring controlled locking lever clamps to the tilt pin to keep the motor from...

    Help

For spark while running the motor (muffs if you like), use a timing gun to see if there is no feed on one or more of the spark plug leads. If you seem to have spark (i.e., the test lamp lights up), you need to measure spark to determine strength of the ignition system. Do this with an...

    1988 Evinrude 4hp

could be your compression tester or technique. Borrow another tester (screw in style with a pressure relief button). Make sure you screw it in enough to compress the O-ring. Try with both plugs removed, and crank until the needle stops moving, then note reading.

    1996 Johnson Outboard not starting

Don't know which model you have, but look for an adjustment needle on the top of the carb. Have you attempted to dial that in (air/fuel mix)? Initial setting is perhaps about 3 turns open -- not sure. The initial setting would be shown in your service manual.

    Newbie Fuel line questions

If going by looks, compare Nissan, Yamaha, and OMC. Buy the OMC if trying to find a fit for the one on your motor. Wouldn't hurt to take the old one with you, even if damaged. Be aware that the new O-ring on a replacement part will likely fit much tighter than the old one.

    Lube control cables

Add that the control box must be operating smoothly. If in fact the cables are binding, it's a safety issue and they need to be replaced.

    Newbie Fuel line questions

If you buy both ends of the connector, it won't matter what you buy. It may not mount neatly on the motor, but the fuel feed will be fine. Buy whatever fits your fancy and pocketbook.

    forward controls?

Might look for a tension control knob on the shift box.

    Newbie Fuel line questions

Buy the one that is marked Evinrude/Johnson -- might save frustration if you buy both the female and male connectors. 5/16 line, as indicated.
