    1972 - 65hp model 65E3L-72S

Drain the l.u., and pull it off. If that's an electric shift model, you need to separate the wires on the right side of the shaft. Disconnect at the knife connectors. Pressure test and look for leaks. With vent plug in place, introduce 8 or 10 lbs. of air using an air pump (rubber gasket...

    96 johnson 9.9-15 carb. Choke ??

If on Ebay, you would need to get the seller to show (in the above example) that the carb came from a J15REDS -- would want to see one of those numbers for the carb he's selling. (And something more than a number he derived from the motor model number.)

    96 johnson 9.9-15 carb. Choke ??

Prepare to get in the weeds. That would usually be a part number for the carb part it's stamped on. The carb number is typically a tin tag held on by one of the bowl mounting screws. You can verify that you have a 15 by looking at the throat size (See Leroy's Ramblings re. 9/15 hp J&E.)...

    94 Johnson 120hp no spark

Don't have a solution, but this '88/'89 diagram is probably similar routing: https://maxrules.com/graphics/omc/wiring/1988_89_120_140.jpg

1979 85hp Prop Shaft Oil Leaks and Skeg Repair On Johnson Evinrude

For compression test, admit I usually lay them on the block away from open plug holes. Crank only until the needle stops climbing. If you patch up the shell, pressure test the gearcase.

    burnt oil leak

agree. NAPA would be Sierra gaskets -- but the whole assortment, and that is a cost and convenience advantage. I've had good luck with Sierra products generally, but oem would be preferable. Maybe a shop has a packet -- dusty old NOS package on a back shelf.

    1997 Evinrude 4hp tuning help

32 is a fuel pump bladder, so 9 is (presumably) the nipple for fuel from an external tank. 42 is the choke knob. 29 is a fuel shut off -- guessing if it partially pulls out as suggested, that would be the directional valve between tanks (integral and external). Need to find a '97 oem service...

(Try NAPA for a gasket set.)

1979 85hp Prop Shaft Oil Leaks and Skeg Repair On Johnson Evinrude

Believe I would be looking for a donor motor. It looks like that lower unit has been banged up pretty hard. You will be spending a lot of time trying to patch up the shell before you even get to potential internal damage IMO.

    96 johnson 9.9-15 carb. Choke ??

which is to say, the 15 engine (donor motor) had a primer system. If you are going to duplicate that system on your 9.9 motor with the "new" 15 carb, you will need to find all of the bits and pieces for that system. Go here to iBoats or to Marine engine or another source and look at a parts...

    burnt oil leak

Might check with a dealer and look for a gasket set (powerhead and exhaust housing).

    96 johnson 9.9-15 carb. Choke ??

Believe the '96 carb/motor would use a primer system -- If so, the carb would not have a choke flapper in the front.

1958 Johnson 5.5hp Not Having Power

If rpms increase when you release pressure by opening the gas cap, it's because the motor is running lean (gas feed reduced). That's why it finally stalls. I would do a couple of things. Try resetting the air/fuel mix by adjusting the needles at the front of the carb. Lightly close both...

Add water -- about half way up the shaft would do.

    Johnson sail master

The hole(s) I refer to are in the supports for the trolling motor mount, ahead of the mounting plate. The steering tube and ram goes through those holes horizontally. I tried to find a pic of mine but not coming up with one.

Wrong gear oil in hydroelectric lower unit

If you want to be extra cautious, drain the unit and refill it with ATF. Run it just a bit with the ATF to heat the oil up a little, then drain it and refill with the considerably more expensive Premium Blend.

    Johnson sail master

Think I'm lost.... The 8 is too shallow in that bucket -- looks like full to the top would be minimal for running. That mount looks very familiar to me -- think it is a Chrysler mount. I use in on the swim platform of my old cruiser -- note that the hole in the supports holds a steering tube...

You are removing the powerhead and installing the long water tube when converting?

    Impeller o-ring? question/confusion

I would use the unrecessed one. Use some wet/dry sandpaper to clean up the stainless wear plate, and apply a light coating of marine grease if you have some.

    1957 Lark won’t idle

Believe the standard connection for a fuel pump pulse is at one of the by-pass covers. Also, the standard plug would be a Champion J4C or J6C, gapped at .030. But you have presumably done a number of these, so have a good idea of what works best for you.
