Don't do that...... we lost internet for the last 24 hours due to wind storms here. I'm just getting back into things :^)

The whole reason for the pump needing oil pressure to run is that a leak in a boat creates a bomb. If the fuel pump runs whenever the key is on and there is a leak, that fuel goes into the bilge. Unlike a car where it would just dribble out on the ground. The oil pressure switch is a safety...

NO NO NO!!!! The pur/yel coming from the starter is ONLY to supply pump power during cranking! That is how it works. Your starter is perfect. Once you stop cranking that source goes dead. At that point, the oil pressure should come up and the oil pressure switch takes over powering the pump.

Mine only has two - so there are switches that have purple on one side and pur/yel on the other. Wayne, you need to test the oil pressure switch. First, when the key is on run position, the purple wire should be hot. When the motor has oil pressure - and it only needs about 5 PSI - the other...

My oil pressure switch to power the fuel pump is top back end of motor just to the rear of intake manifold and a couple inches port side of distributor.

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

Those are plenty to cause issue! Good job finding them. Good Luck. Rick

How can I fix the water leaking at the stern for my boat?

Without doing testing you are being the three monkeys here: See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. With that attitude you should buy a little red wagon and give up on boating.

With power wire connected, just put purple on the lug that goes hot with one click to the right and put starter wire (yel/red) on the one that is hot in the momentary second click right. I don't have an issue with an accessory spot, never seen that but be nice for the sterEEEEoooh.

    gimbal housing broken lip opinions

++ to what Scott said. If I knew I had the parts I needed, I would bet good money I could do the swap in a single longish day. Hardest part would be waiting on the rubber cement to dry holding the new gasket ring onto the gimbal housing.

Power to purple comes from ignition switch. Sounds like you found your problem.

No idea. Spendy kit. Never seen one before, so not qualified to give an answer. Personally, I'd replace the housing with a used one. But I know I can have the motor out and the gimbal off in a couple hours.

2003 SeaRay 200 Bowrider seized engine????!!!!

Tons of options. 12K is way over what should consider reasonable. I suppose that is for a new Merc. Yes, you can get a long block and swap it in. Or have yours rebuilt. There are some pretty decent engine builders for marine engines. No problem swapping in the 5.7 except I think you have to...

It can be welded. Can't be run with that chunk missing and keep water out of the bellows. Was mine, I'd be hunting a FleaBay or Craigslist replacement.

First thing - unless you have fuel injection, the pump does not ever come on with the key. Fuel pump has two sources of power - the purple wire from the ignition goes through an oil pressure switch is primary. Secondary is the purple/yellow coming off the starter powers the pump during cranking...

    95 Mercruiser 3.0L 4Cyl to Diesel Swap?

The Merc sterndrives are designed to line up and match the bellhousing of mostly Chevy engines. That match is within a very tight tolerance when the motor is directly attached to the transom plate. The only variable then is up and down angle on the front of the motor. Cobbling up a...

    95 Mercruiser 3.0L 4Cyl to Diesel Swap?

Be a great little boat motor...... Have to make a bell housing or an adapter to fit up to the transom plate. Must have a heavy flywheel which would need drill and tap to fit a coupler. Lotsa engineering math to get it right. Might be easier with a jackshaft instead of a coupler. Attaching to...

How long to idle engine to circulate fuel stabilizer through system

It would be a while. Talking 1/3 of a gallon at idle.... When I use stabilizer I stick it in before I warm the motor preparatory to the oil change and water drainage. I don't really worry much about the fuel in my Edelbrock carburetor cause it mostly drains out by spring.

What I am reading is we has no voltage at the coil - and if he jumps voltage to the coil, the motor will start. He does not have a Thunderbolt ignition problem or it wouldn't start. I would start by cleaning all connections to from the battery. Pay especially close attention to the ground at...

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

At least it's a really simple carburetor to disassemble and reassemble. You will find that the instructions in the correct Mercruiser Service Manual for your motor, on carburetor rebuilding and adjustments, are if anything, too detailed. It is your essential guide to this rebuild - not the piece...
