Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

OK, thanx. Same principal applies as to a crows foot. Recalculating the required torque needed to get the applied torque to the adapter.

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

Are you talking about a "crows foot" adapter on the torque wrench instead of a socket? If so, then the calibration changes considerably, since there is a distance from the square hub and the center point of the bolt. Just adding length to the TW handle changes nothing about the torque applied...

    Red cylinder under dash

You have a picture of it? At this point, I would just be guessing as to what it is and it's function.

    Any tricks for wire corrosion

Never had any luck cleaning them up with sandpaper and trying to get solder to stick. Best fix is cut it out and replace.

Pull plugs and it will spin much faster. I would be focusing toward coupler, ignition components (seen too many of these bad out of the box, especially plugs / gap, to dismiss) or carb. Are ignition components OEM / name brand or generic from Amazon or ebay? Hard to tell

I wouldn't discount the ignition system / injectors (if you have them) as too many solved mysterious vibration / rough operation have been problems with either of these. All was perfect before the engine replacement? If so, then has to be engine or else something, besides engine, was damaged or...

    Any tricks for wire corrosion

Once that starts, only way to stop it is cut it back to clean copper. Solder won't even stick to it. If replacing it, used the good marine tinned wire. A stop gap I have seen used and actually works. IF the wire is in good shape, aside from the black, is to get some of the grease they use on...

Mercruiser Alpha One will not trim up, no sound

Yup, there is supposed to be a screw in there holding it rigidly to the insert.

    Trim position sensor

Keep us informed... I needed to check the insert position, as I just rebuilt my tansom assy (leaking steel steering pin) and upgraded to S/S steering pin. Doing that means the pivot pins were removed and re-installed, changing the orientation slightly.

    No longer made in USA

    S. Korean stuff seems to be better quality than ChiCom. S. Korea normally has rights to US patented stuff. ChiCom, not so much.

the up / down on the mounts should be done equally. There may be some issue with the rear mounts, but if there is on yours, it would be very slight, looking at the witness marks. I think once your top / bottom witness marks are good, the sides will clear up, too. Remember, 2 fingers to push all...

Correct.... Front of engine goes opposite of heavy witness marks on the grease. IE: Heavy marks on top, front engine mounts go down..

Drivers side, when attached to tow vehicle, is left side.

MerCruiser 5.0 MPI pinging/detonation at higher RPMs

That dist wobble is surely not right. You can see the sensor gap change as it moves. That will effect the timing big time. Does that dist a 2 part assy / have separate parts that bolt together? I suspect the screws / bolts are loose or MIA. Definitely needs yo come out and be corrected /...

Good progress.... Heavy marks on the bottom indicate the engine is low in the front and the mounts need to be adjusted UP. Adjust engine to move opposite of marks. Then go from there. Can be a long, sometimes painful and frustrating, process of small adjustments, especially if doing it alone...

With bar removed, can you look inside, through the gimbal bearing, and see the engine coupler splines? Looks like the bar is missing the coupler splines completely and at that angle, you would never get the bar to insert into them. Sometimes the gimbal bearing itself is out of alignment (it...
