Are you certain you are trying the correct bolt hole?

    New motor knocking???

Was the timing set correctly before you moved the distributor, and was it reset afterwards? The first video sounds like a lifter, but its nearly impossible to tell from a video.

Help Diagnosing carb vs ignition problem, 5.7 mercruiser

Ok, that is definitely not ignition. Will it not rev up when it does this? Who adjusted the idle? Sorry, this is not what I understood by your description. It sounds like it is slowly loading up and you just wait for it to die.

    Under proped with light load

I was questioning the actual usage of the 17p prop. Sure, it over revs with a really light load, but I'd guess I'd need to drop some more pitch if I added 7 people with gear and a 3 person tube. I did test the vessel view last night, and it seems to be working, so that should be helpful.

    charging a boat battery

I do not trust the testers the parts stores use now. I have had cranking batteries sit at 4 volts for several months, yet they don't hold a charge long and the tester says they are "good." Then again, I wouldn't trust a single inexpensive battery on the water. I've had Walmart batteries last...

Help Diagnosing carb vs ignition problem, 5.7 mercruiser

It sounds like vapor lock, pulling a vacuum on the fuel tank, or coil to me. I doubt a marine engine gets hot enough to vapor lock, but it could be a fuel tank issue if it has independent tanks. I'd still guess coil. Either replace it, swap them, or try to cool the coil every 5 minutes with...

    Hot water heater hose question

You had me going there for a second. That would be hilarious though, and worthy of a Darwin award for sure.

    Hot water heater hose question

That's just how it is done. You'd have to drain the tank before you filled it with antifreeze, and it's a waste of antifreeze because air won't freeze and burst a tank. Then there is the issue of flushing all of the antifreeze out of the tank so nobody drinks it.

    Hot water heater hose question

The tees look like they have a 4th side, are you sure the tees aren't valves to bypass the tank for winterizing?

    12V Power on/off

The 110 outlet in mine was switched, so I tapped into the 12 volt side to power my radar detector. That was on a '14 though.

New to Forum / New Boat / Selecting the correct prop

I'm in a very similar position and I went with a 4 blade aluminum. I already have gps speed, so I also ordered equipment to know my actual rpm. That should give me a solid baseline to start with. Aluminum Quicksilver props are so inexpensive I can try 4 different props for the price of a...

    Under proped with light load

The prop shop was a bust. Up to $100 to repair 3 blade aluminum, and they can't straighten stainless. What's the point? No wonder they build trailers and other random stuff.

    Possibly seized motor?

I don't recall what size the bolt is, but 5/8" is absolutely wrong. I not even certain it is 3/8", could be smaller.

    Possibly seized motor?

I was wrong about the factory bolt breaking, but the all thread installation tool will break. There are 2 reasons people strip cranks, attempting to install the balancer with the factory bolt or turning the crank through compression. I don't know if boat guys know that gm hasn't always...

    Possibly seized motor?

You would break the bolt long before you stripped the crank, and if you broke the bolt, you'd just trade that crank in as a core or have your machine shop remove it for $10.

    Possibly seized motor?

Is there a crank bolt you can put a wrench on? You could probably get it to turn with the pulley bolts, just don't be too hard on those. If it does turn, I'd just kill the ignition and crank it until it has oil pressure. I don't think there is much difference between a year and 6 years as far...

    Possibly seized motor?

So basically, you have no reason to believe it is seized, you are just worried?

    Under proped with light load

I ordered the vessel view and a 17p spitfire. I'll see where I'm at with the spitfire and maybe order a few more cheap props to play with, then if I decide to try something expensive I'll make the trip to the prop shop.

    Two year old fuel

Considering they say you are supposed to add it to your oil, would it matter? There are really only 2 camps on the subject, believers that one additive is designed to work in all fluids and all possible applications, then those that don't believe it for a second. Choose your side and run with it.
