    Out drive ID

Here's a chart for that era Mercruisers that also gives tooth count on the upper gears. You can see and count those if you remove the top cap from the drive. This also gives you general drive ratio ranges for motors during the listed years.

I found a picture someone posted on this forum. And yeah, if you have knocking, replace the u-joints. If there is anything in the gimbal bearing, replace it too.

    Nut Sizes....

I think he is referencing wire nuts..... do not use them in automotive or marine wiring, they come loose with vibration. Use red, blue and yellow butt connectors, I mostly prefer the heat shrink ones in a boat since with a little heat gun waving they are tight and neat. What you need is a good...

    Wiring In Electric Fuel Pump

jones01m, the proper way is with a relay. Loading an oil pressure switch with the constant duty load of an electric fuel pump will eventually fail the oil pressure switch. I would add the relay power source and use the oil pressure switch and starter as the on off source for the relay. Your...

    Wiring In Electric Fuel Pump

For the fuel pump I basically got all the original mercruiser mounting hardware and the plumbing from pump to carburetor. Since I purchased a new Edelbrock 1409 carb I was able to use the fuel line that fits the Weber - they are the same carburetor. The bracket shown in the picture uses one...

    Wiring In Electric Fuel Pump

I used what I get from my trailer parts supplier, which is plain ol copper wire like from Napa. My boat is 1005 fresh water and stored indoors, so I am not worried at all about it getting corroded. Here's a photo where you can see the relay bolted into the plate with the big plug, starter...

    Wiring In Electric Fuel Pump

I just did this process last year. And like you, I had the engine sitting on a stand, so I was able to make really clean wiring harnesses. You need two sources for turning on the fuel pump. And I would really advise you put a solenoid on the pump so you don't draw that power through an oil...

Engine alignment changed after engine pull

I am amazed it was possible to align with the rear mounts not exactly right. Shows what I know, I guess. The motor sits on the springs and the fiber washer gives it a bottom. Without both components I would have thought it too far out to rotate into alignment. I don't know what to suggest other...

    Bellows install HELP

Welcome iBoats forum. You can't post pics until you have 3 posts I think. PLus you have to resize under 700K, if I am not mistaken. BTW< this forum is available as an aid to iBoats the store, a Sierra and Mercruiser dealer. Might delete where you bought your SIerra kit. And if I had any kind of...

    Mercruiser alignment issues

Here's a pic of the tool end I made to let me press the bearing cup out. In the drawing it is shown in blue, with the bearing nut shown in yellow and the u-joint cup shown in green. I did have to knock the corners off my older drive, while the newer one has plenty of clearance. The cutouts on...

    transom leak

Stringers are the fore and aft hull stiffeners. Typically built with a couple of 2x6 or 2x8 glassed down onto the bare hull to give it lengthwise rigidity. The ends of the stringers are often wood to wood contact with the transom wood. So water in one can get into the other. A couple of holes...

    transom leak

Absolutely, only straight back into transom or to the side into stringer wood. Be especially careful into the stringers since the hull slants up. In the pic below I started with 3/8th drill bit at the lowest spot I could reasonable reach and found wet wood. Then I moved up under the keyhole to...

    4.3 MPI 220hp turning 6000 RPM at 48 mph???

4.3 V6 uses 1.81:1. V8's use 1.62 or lower ratios. You have the correct ratio drive for any V6.

    transom leak

All I did was wrap some electrical tape around the drill bit at the depth I wanted to safely hit without getting to the outer hull. Also made are collets that can clamp to the bit to set depth, but for just a few holes, the tape is fine. Note, once I hit dark wood my hole size got enlarged by...

    transom leak

Drilling holes is pretty easy. I did it a couple years ago because I was re-engining. AllDodge kept me on track. Started out looking like my transom was in really good shape, and in fact wasn't too bad. But I feel pretty good about having cutout and replaced all of the wood that had gotten wet...
