    Nola Mike's 3.7/470 --> 4.3L swap thread

    The jig is held up, against the transom, the the top straight edge even with the top of the transom plate motor mount. The bottom edge of the jig is then the correct height for the glassed in mounts. So yeah, you use the jig with the transom plate installed and just hold it against the transom...

    Nola Mike's 3.7/470 --> 4.3L swap thread

    I built a jig out of plywood that worked perfectly to set height on my new V6 motor mounts. It was based on the Mercruiser drawing for the Alpha 4.3L 1996-01 2 piece exh. And the main thing is that all Merc transom plates set the motor at 13º down from the transom angle. With that as the...

    Frankenboat Carburetor catastrophe

    Unfortunately, can't use the calibration ended up on my carb as my engine has Vortec heads. That changes the flow completely. However, the Edelbrock 1485 Calibration kit is designed for the pre-Vortec 4.3L V6. So is a good place to start with your engine if you get either a Weber or an 1409...

    1969 Starcraft holiday 3.0 mercruiser - Possible swap to 4.3

    No idea what you mean by 'a boat like this'. Post a pic maybe. My project was a 17 ft ski boat I turned into a fishing barge. This is what it looked like before the mods. Suppose I should have afterwards pics, but never took any. Fuel use is the same for a given speed. The V6 is a LOT...

    Alpha 1 Gen II speedometer attachment missing

    Small little 1/4 inch rubber tube comes out of the port side of the gimbal housing. If your speedo is working and you ain't got that tube attached, possible it wasn't used and you have a regular pitot tube screwed into the stern? The Gen2 drive has a pitot hole built into it. Won't hurt a thing...

    Intake manifold installation question / 4.3L vortec

    Yes, you usually can find it at auto parts stores. There is a Mercruiser branded identical product for lots more. I use the Loctite stuff and it is identical. The idea is a coating that never gets hard and brittle.

    Which electric fuel pump Vortec longblock?

    I used the Airtex pump that was OEM when my motor was used by Mercruiser. That let me get any fittings, mounts and the stainless preformed fuel line between pump and carb. Using the factory mount puts the pump on the end of the head, after the water separator. I had the same issue with the fuel...

    Vibration when turning

    That looks like oil in the bellows. But not a lot and could just be grease thrown off the u-joints. Oil will have a distinct gear lube smell. Grease will not have much of a smell at all. Wipe a little more and smell it. I would see if there is any catching or loose play in the u-joints. And...

    alpha one gen two with external clip u joint

    I do find that part number listed by Sierra. Never seen anything like it anywhere. You might post your serial number, it is an intriguing conundrum.

    alpha one gen two with external clip u joint

    If I search the part number for 1991-1995 Alpha1 Gen2 drives, the u-joint is a #75832T1. That is an internal. If I use the sticky cross reference I get these automotive sourced part numbers: SPICER# 5-1306X ROCKFORD# K1306 DETROIT# 7260 NEAPCO# 1-6300 / 1-6301 PRECISION (MOOG)# 315G TRW...

    Yup, goes in the top space. You should be able to get that pin out and reposition it without doing everything else.

    Correct wiring for fuel pump?

    Solenoid should read "RELAY". Idea being that we don't power the fuel pump off the ignition switch. Merc diagram shows the pump powered off the ignition (purple) wire. The relay gets its power direct from the battery through a fused wire. The switch part of the relay has two sourced to turn...
