    Spark on these motors is very hard to see. I usually turn all the lights out in the garage or put a cover of some sort over the motor when testing for spark. Is the ignition a points type or CDI? If points, you might want to clean them. I believe they're under a cover on the small pulley.

    That could just be the result of condensation. Have you tried to run it to see if water leaks anywhere or the oil gets contaminated?

    Those were added on by someone. Normally there's two 1/4" holes there. Looks like they've been tapped for those brass fittings.

    The decking should come off in sections giving you access. There should be a corresponding hole in the hooks that don't show in the picture.

    You won't get a 19 foot boat and trailer into a 19 foot garage I don't think.

    A name brand wrench would be best but there will always be a bit of play. If you have room you could use a pair of vice grips to close the wrench to reduce play. Like Scott06 said, if it's the line why not cut it and use a box end wrench?

    Just a heads up that OMC drives can be difficult to find parts for and mechanics that can service them.

    Have you checked the thermostat to see if it's stuck open or opening at the marked temperature? There's many honda motors running in northern climates without issue. Someone may have put the wrong thermostat in. Not sure what you mean by a "higher temperature rating"

    You haven't mentioned the drives. Are they in good shape? Are they mercruiser?

    If you suspect 3 have you tried backing off and then tightening the lifters for 3 to see if the sound changes? Did you plasti-gauge the rod bearings?

    The carb rebuild kits for 1968-1982 2.5 and 3.0 liter should all work if it's the original carb. Mercury # 823427A-1 Sierra 18-7746 or 18-7070 I just measured the base gasket from my 823427A-1 and the mounting holes in it are 3.28" x 1.91" and the bores are 1.487"
