    don'T forget tha tiny side channel sending fuel to the top welch plug cavity pass the idle needle. the side channel must be blasted clean with carb cleaner exiting on top of the carb idle section !

    could be just bad capacitors acting up under heat load ... has suggested check for loss of sparks. have you redone all electricals recently or still running on old stuff

    just follow the hoses .. the recirc. hoses just go from side barbs to top barbs with a small check valve

    On a similar case on a modern ETEC still using old style concepts it was suggested that the side recirculation hose normally allowing any pooled fuel oil mix found in the lower gearcase to be sucked up and sent to the upper bearing and or drawn in for combustion may be at fault...

    you did not specify if this was sudden new problem or existing one on a new to to you engine... a tilted carb is always subject to some dripping fuel due to the open air atmospheric air supply openning needed to supplement the void created by fuel being sucked out of the carb. see...

    yet the questions remain unanswered and it is up to you to help out on the diagnostic & happy conclusion. You would be surprised how much carb cleaner gets waisted...if the carb is not taken apart. Folks here try to help freely but if we don't meet expectations folks on aomci can also...

    idling requires fuel to reach the engine via the idle circuit. did you remove the top idle chamber dime size plug to clean/inspect the 3 small drip holes and 100% cleaned out the side channel feeding fuel to the top idle needle which allows fuel to enter the chamber , ...

    AMS Oil 75W90 or Evinrude Lower Unit Gear Oil

    now 74 had motors since 17 and same process..change oil annually check for water !! before freeze up. my ETEC did have creamy stuff one year but GC pressure test was OK and new gaskets solved the problem the sulfur thing....just a friendly heads up. lots of stories in the Net.

    with NEW gaskets on the plugs :) btw not certain about GL-5 oil...someting to do with sulfur ... may as well just stick with marine grade stuff as opinions differ widely..

    sometimes diplomacy works a lot better ...I have seen a lot worse on this site and eaten crow myself and it became an acquired taste. as to your question the the volt/reg 's job it to keep things (Volts) flat whatever the amperage load is as it charges the battery and feeds accessories...

    a recent case came up on the ETEC board where the impeller's brass inner sleeve was actually loose enough to cause problems. at low rpm or temps the pump would work but at higher rpms and temp the impeller became totally useless in turning the fins. see picture in this link...

    the 2002 -2006 FICHT _ETEC book doesn't mention much on the 180v your refer to ...unfortunately I have no access to a 20011 manual but if you found that info in a reliable book you may be on to something.
