    the best you can do for your ETEC is ALWAYS feed it clean fuel with a 10u water separator, change gear oil annually and change impeller about 3-5 years max. wouldn't worry to much about water intakes. window screen would get plugged up even faster !

    download your manual and suggest you acquire the software to service your engine if ever you get "codes" User GEB on theTEC board provides much documentation like this write -up on EV diagnostics btw both 2002-006 and the 2007 books provide pretty much all the info you need...

    IF I say IF the engine key was left on... maybe 3 weeks 4 weeks at most bilge, bait and fish tank pumps and running lights all have a separate key under control of the main instrument key also wired to my red idiot lamp. hard to forget !!

    the only problems I had were Code 38 no oil fixed under warranty with a new oil pump and Sw rev. the other was a failing T&T seal replaced several years ago and doing fine . It has been 19 years as my retirement gift to me. done about 3 impellers, maybe 2 sets of plugs , GC oil...

    EMMs are available but costly... several shops can fix them if not a lost cause. EMM killing is usually by using wing nusts on the battery but they do fail. always run with kicker..currently a 4hp Merc. ..and paddles :-)

    found my 850 starting battery totally dead. don't know why but it was dead solid in the boat. I left it on the charger at the cottage while in town but wondering if it is now unuseable or trustworthy ? even if will show fully charged again

    could be just bad capacitors adjust cam and cam follower to specs ..check coils for cracks don't assume the other guy did change them ... clean the points measure both HV coil ohms.......... from boots to frame should be 4-8 Kohms

    Need your opinion about replacing the original Reed Valves in my 1986 Evinrude 30 hp.

    Seafoam gets good and bad comments all the time. Personnaly i don't abuse it but it certainly cleared up surging on my snowblower :)

    picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

    not much to service other than GC oil carb jobs if needed simple non-shifting engines. some pulll starter recoils are tricky and magnetos are easy to fix up and you should pull all 3 FW to inspect for cracked coils, replace possibly bad condensers and clean up/or replace the points...
