    1995 Talari 190 4.3 with 1.84 ratio 205HP

Put a Solas in your hands and then put it on your boat, then downgrade them!

    1995 Talari 190 4.3 with 1.84 ratio 205HP

I recently bought the Solace 4 blade that I mentioned. In the verbiage furnished by Solace they spoke of bow and stern lifting types of props. Their 3 blade, other parameters identical is in the bow lifting arena like would be used on a bass boat and their 4 blade is made for water toys and...

    1995 Talari 190 4.3 with 1.84 ratio 205HP

What's your RPM with the borrowed prop at 41? Is the borrowed prop "ported"......holes under the leading edges of the blades? How's the hole shot with that prop? Its interesting that you are getting more speed and RPMs simultaneously which is hard to understand especially when you said...

'22 Mercury 115 Pro XS, best prop?

Agree raising the engine off the transom even one hole (3/4") can make a MPH or more difference. You have to have the right prop to raise the engine off the transom since you are inviting ventilation at early trim angles and when up like that you need the trim out to get the hull out of the...

'22 Mercury 115 Pro XS, best prop?

I guess your gear ratio is 2:1 like my 2002 2 stroke 115.....seems to be pretty much an industry standard for that HP. If you are running over 35 MPH for a number, trimming out always reduces the wetted area of the boat and increases RPM and speed as you indicate due to less hull drag. I am...

    Prop Selection Advice

Ebay postings list the condition when they post the ad. If new is says so, if new but opened packaged, for some packaged items, like it was opened for display purposes but not used, it will say so, if pre-owned it will say so. I've purhased about 400 items from them when I was building my N...

Can I run my Mercury outboard without gear oil?

I bought my first boat at 15. Didn't have a car but mom let me use hers. I didn't know s....from Shinola (a brand of shoe polish popular back then). So don't worry about it. Have a question, ask. If you don't like the answer or answerer, forget it and get on with your life. Good Luck.

    Prop Selection Advice

I shop ebay often for lots of things. Purchases are guaranteed by ebay, not the seller so you are covered. On returns, different sellers have different rules on things like prop returns. Usually its if you mount it you bought it....seller's comments....reason being that seller has to sell it...

    Grinding Noise

I would expect a "clunk" unless he moved the shifter at a snail's pace, not a grinding noise.

    The original is a 16-pitch prop, can I use a 15-pitch?

A 15 will work for you. Only concern would be when lightly loaded the engine RPMs "might" exceed the recommended upper RPM limit for your engine. If that's the case, just reduce the throttle setting till they are within the correct range. You will notice better thrust at low speeds when...

    Grinding Noise

You need to pull the prop and inspect the lower unit and front of the prop hub for damage. Only reason you should get the problem you mentioned is that the thrust washer is incorrect....as others have indicated....and the prop is rubbing against the engine housing.

    Prop Selection Advice

Go to the prop sales/selection chart on the top of the site. Select your engine and then being a 2.3 gear ratio, I'd opt for a 15" pitch. The other details are provided once you select your engine for particulars. A quick check of 2.33 gear ratio, 5500 RPMs, 20% prop slip, 30 mph........Go...

Does EFI solve the hard start/cranking issue?

My boats sit for months at a time making fast initial starting a toss of a coin. Last year I installed an electric fuel pump proceeding my 2 stroke, carbed engine and it has helped my initial start after sitting come more quickly. On EFI you get the good with the bad... No doubt it's faster...

    Suzuki DF140a 4 Blade Prop

I was running a 3 blade Laser II 20" SS prop and changed to a 19" SS Solace 4 blade. Anything requiring better prop to water contact was enhanced. Top end drop as a result of dropping 1" in pitch and adding the less efficient 4 vs 3 blade design only resulted in a drop from 47 to 45 MPH. Well...

Talon SS Prop for 90 Vmax SHO?

Most SS props are designed to highlight the benefits of modern propeller design and as a result will load your engine reducing RPMs but increasing speed. I would expect the 19 would be a good match for your rig since you published what a stock 19 will do. Boat reaction to the change in thrust...

    Bowriders that handle waves well?

A co-worker bought an 18' closed bow Sea Ray with a 165 I/O and I drove it while on an outing one day many years ago. With Texas' usual high winds, and a large lake, the ride was very smooth.......and Sea Ray mono hulls I have seen fit the bill as I mentioned.

I have an idea. They wanted you to buy OEM replacements from them so they hid the size.........OEMs do that you know.

Identifying old SS OMC prop size

I bought an OMC SST in 1973, their first sales year, for my 1972 new 18' tri-hull, bow rider, Caravelle with a 125 Johnson. I wanted a prop that I could use on Sunday and not have it in the shop on Monday with a bent blade and the price I paid was $185 plus Texas sales tax. I clearly...
