    1978 Islander 22 I/O

"Do they interfere" is a question I can't exactly answer because I don't have a "before/after" comp to make. I don't get perfect performance on-plane with this configuration, but it's also a touchy transducer to get going anyway. The tabs are bennett M120 10x12

    Decking Question

Yeah the tbnation stuff is super relevant to what we do...even if I could fit most "tiny" boats in my cockpit. With aluminum you are gonna want to accept and expect some flex, unless you very much overbuild it. Also, if you go "heavy" on aluminum vs. wood, if you're properly accounting for...

    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

Ultimately you're taking a big powerplant and building it into a boat. You're generally either gonna sacrifice something in access to the engine or in usable space on the boat. The full-width deck (or seating, I guess) across the top is probably the smoothest imo as long as you can use the...

    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

I've gotta say, that engine compartment looks great and quite luxurious.

    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

My supersport v5 was repowered to a 5.7 as well. Similar to IslandExplorer's mount except it sits on a couple of spacers to get the engine height right.

    1972 Starcraft Nova

It's a contact adhesive that's formulated to not degrade in the presence of the plasticizers that are in vinyl. It's maybe slightly forgiving but mostly you should get your lay right before contact is made.

What level of corrosion is acceptable?

This guy...does not to appear to have done remotely acceptable work. The best hope is it's a recent enough "conversion" to have not done permanent damage. The "cover up the keyhole with a transom" trick is a new one to me.

What level of corrosion is acceptable?

Assuming that it floats I'd price it as a bare hull rather than scrap. But that doesn't mean a lot. OP: this isn't a mariner, it's a bare hull. It doesn't have an acceptable transom. It doesn't have anything I'd trust. It's probably someone's hacked-together duck hunting toy. If you're...

    1980 22ft SS V5 rework

I have no problem with leaving them as sealed plywood. If I wanted a more finished look I could cover them easily enough (Livewell will have a liner, for example, but that's not installed yet. Already did the main deck and aft casting deck with the rivnut combo. Worked well, once I have up on...

    1980 22ft SS V5 rework

None* of it is field-proven yet (well, the stern casting deck/engine cover with same hatch design has seen some water time) so these are all just what felt good to me! For clearances - a brief disclaimer that I have a tendency to pursue overly tight tolerances that gets me in trouble...

Looking for advice / 16 supersport

There are obviously running boats in great shape available on the market. The "unicorn" aspect would be more about what price you would pay.

Starcraft Mariner '76 21 ft Splashwell modification questions

Yeah those old splashwells are hilariously over proportioned. If you look at the splashwell from the rear - all the force is coming at the motor mount. The only support the splashwell would give against that torque would be via the tiny wings at the sides. It can't provide support elsewhere -...

Starcraft Mariner '76 21 ft Splashwell modification questions

It's not a Mariner or an outboard, but it is a 22ft Starcraft with a big, clear casting deck and seating for 4, so figured I'd post it. You don't need your deck to cover a 350 small block like I do, but I don't see any reason you couldn't move the "support" piece down a bit and partially deck...

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

That's just the natural way of things I think. As long as you can finagle a way to get it down enough to run on muffs for maintenance and don't run around at launches or something, that's just the cost of your boat riding low enough to hopefully see over/around it, get it through a garage door...

Just how much bigger is a 22 foot super sport versus a 16 foot?

Depends on v5 or classic, but they're a lot bigger. I can pretty much fit a 16 footer in the cockpit of my v5. Interior depth is 27 (v5 - the deck sits higher to accomodate the deeper V) or 31in(classic) on the 22s vs 16s. Beam is about a foot for the classic and 20 in wider with the v5...
