    In-Line Fuel Filter Question

In my much younger days, my old motor had carb issues after sitting all winter. I made a little hand pump with a hose that would go into the carb drain plug hole. I would pump some gum out ( old time carb cleaner) into the bowl and flush out any left over crud. Worked well but very messy...

Tow Smart "Submersible" LED tail lights are junk... better solution?

Looking at mine, they appeared to be glued together as there are no replaceable parts inside. No screws to come loose and no gaskets from what I can see. There is a sealing grommet where the wires come out the back of the rear housings and same for marker lights housings.

    Lake Ontario

When we had our 22' Islanders we used the same rule, 2' waves were max for comfort level reasons.. Been caught in 4' waves a few times and while the boat did fine, it was not comfortable at all !! My current 16' does really well in 2' waves but that is my limit and it is mostly used for...

Tow Smart "Submersible" LED tail lights are junk... better solution?

I have used LED light sets on my last two trailers from our local Farm and Fleet and Tractor Supply co. Took advantage of sales on each set. Common ground wire at each light and all connections fully soldered and sealed. No issues with first set, they are over 10 yrs old and the second set is...

    Lake Ontario

Weather forecasting is never 100% accurate, but over the years, I have learned to look back a couple states and see what is comming. Often I make my own forecast based on what might be several hundred or even a thousand miles away. My wife says I am more accurate than the local weather people...

Pay closer attention to wind speed and direction for hours ahead of your trip. I watch the forecast for the day before, day of and day after, if you know tour area and what the wind will cause when it comes out of certain directions you will know what can develop. No different than a pilot in...

Very possible !! This happens often but people hate to think their new gas is bad !! Been there, done that ! All my boat fuel comes from a private dealer that monitors his stuff. I use the E 10, fuels with never an issue but tested often.

    Correcting potential bad gear ratio

One inch of pitch equals about a 200 rpm change, one inch on diameter equals about 100 rpm change. These are general calculations that folks use to tune their props to their engine. So...based on your 3100 rpm with a 19" pitch......you would have to really reduce your pitch a bunch....better...

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

I hit a sunken object at 30 mph as well in 1986. No idea what it was but it was solid. Had my 18' Star craft CC running up the river at night. Downtown is well lit up at night but what ever was there was just under the surface and couldn't see it. Pushed the whole bottom of my hull up about...

    towing - engine in neutral?

Just making a general reference to engine rpm....5500 or 2500, still designed to go round and round far faster than what any wind would blow !

    towing - engine in neutral?

Really.......I would think there are far more issues than this with OB motors. We are worrying about something that is designed to turn at 5500 rpm's, and whether the wind might affect it ?
