Blue Sea Add A Battery query

If it were my boat, I would take whatever steps were needed to keep the water out, so there would be no strain on the battery to start with. That is where a good cover comes into play....

    Add cleat to trailer?

Great plan if your ramp is steep enough. Around my area the ramps are pretty flat and can be difficult to get enough angle to roll off. This is one reason I like a full roller trailer, just because of the type ramps we have. Bunk trailers can be difficult to get in far enough to float your...

    tahoe 1950 trailer guide pole

Many like me myself just used pvc pipe to make our own poles, but attached them to the side guides, the poles are visuals, the guides do all the work.

Two stroke oil leaking into fuel hose, 30hp 1993

Disconnect your fuel line from the engine when your done for the day. As the gas evaporates it leaves oil, with the fuel line connected, what ever oil is in the line can bleed over time further into the hose to look like premix. I always disconnect my fuel line at the dock and let it run for a...

    tahoe 1950 trailer guide pole

In my opinion, pokes are decorations and won't stop a heavy boat from turning on a windy day. In my 60 plus years of boating the longer side guides have always worked better for me.

    Say it ain’t the transom!

Only way to check transom and stringers is to drill a small hole and check for water or rotten wood. Flexing can be a telltale, but I have saw rock solid no flexing transoms with soft wood inside. Being a 1981, the odds are not in your favor, better to be safe than sorry.

Ever wonder where all the hurricane and storm surge boats wind up ?

Just look me cars and trucks, send them to a dealer to get cleaned and detailed out, then send them up north to the used car/ boat sales lots or auction houses. Buyer Beware !!

    Trolling motor battery location

Your safest bet is to try the batteries in various places with a normal load in your boat. Gotta put them where the best balance will be while in the water.. Sometimes just trying and moving them around will give you the best ideas.

Partsvu - are they legit and OK to buy from or?

When n ever I buy parts, one of the first things I look at, is there return policies. What good is a cheap price if your stuck with the wrong or a faulty part ! Most of the time I use a local dealer to order parts thru, yep it might cost a few bucks more, but I also get great tips and tricks...

Johnson 90 Oops it did it again

The mechanic had it in and out of his shop numerous times, and of course it never acted up for him. We finally decided to go together out on the water to try and get it to act up. The mechanic was very good to me, I know he had far mire hours in this than what he charged me for, but it had...

Johnson 90 Oops it did it again

Had a similar issue on my 1979 70 ho Johnson OB. One time it would run perfect, then another time 1500 rpm was it ! Battled this for a month trying everything, even taking it to a mechanic. Of course it worked perfect every time for them. One day we went out together and it acted up...

    Process for changing boat trailers?

Years back I needed to swap trailers on my 18' Star craft aluminum boat. Borrowed an engine hoist, actually two to be safe. As mentioned in prior post, drop the tongue and shore up transom area, then raise tongue, I added some stabilizing board to the sides so the boat would not tip side to...

Opening day of summer boating season.

In our area, the weather has been crappy. High wind, rain and storms one after the other so no chance for the big lake to settle down. Once the rain slowed, we had 100 degree days in the hot sun. Been quite a few years since we had this poor of a start to the season.

    Shift Lever Question

If your going to work on an outboard motor, you need a factory service manual, as mentioned on these forums hundreds of times. Use the make, model and serial number of your motor to find everything you will need ! Your working on the motor, what boat it is on makes no difference.

    '85 Merc 50HP 2-Stroke - Rich/Lean Adjustment

Interesting info on the spark plugs. My 1992 Merc calls for NGK plugs in the factory manual, also my Dad had a mid eighties Merc that called for NGK plugs. We tried Champion but it never ran right with them. When I had OMC engines, they always seem to run better with the Champion plugs over...

    Process for changing boat trailers?

Often people learn bad habits to start and it becomes difficult to change. After my neighbor watched me a few times, they ask for help backing their own trailers. First thing I tell them us to stop turning around to look out the back ! Learn to use your mirrors....I have taught numerous folks...
