I stormed here last night, and was predicted to be partly cloudy in the morning. Down here, that usually means mild temps. NOT! It was windy, cold and wet. I was out there 20 minutes and said "Nope!" Tomorrow should be drier and calmer, so maybe I'll work on it in the afternoon while...

That's a really good impression of a scarf face.

As far as weight goes, I'll be under the factory weight. They had a full width rear bench and a sun deck. All wood and upholstery. Mine will be a bikini compared to their one-piece suit.

I just did some reading and I may have talked myself out of fiberglass altogether on this enclosure. The wood will weigh around 40 lbs. Add a layer of CSM to waterproof it and add 4 lbs. Fiberglass with coring for strength will be around 30 lbs. but will not have the sound deadening affect...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

Scott, I've considered I've considered using it as a plug. Haven't ruled it out, either. My plans are pretty fluid. Shoot, I've even considered smoothing this as a plug for a mold, and making my part from the mold starting with gel coat. If I thought I could sell a few, I would invest...

I did a little more work on the enclosure, and allot more brainstorming. I drug out what's left of my convertible top, and a Bimini top that never got installed on the boat. the Bimini seems like it will be perfect. Too bad I didn't store it indoors. It was fairly new when I got the boat...

An "eraser wheel" in your drill will take that off and leave it looking like it was never there. Eraser wheels are mostly used for removing old decals and pinstripes without hurting paint or gelcoat. 3M makes them.

Nice weather, but little progress. Tough week at work, so I needed to relax and clear some offsets. Catch up on some YouTube and such. Even so, I did some creative stuff. This boat was designed and built before cell phones were really a thing, so MY rendition of this Caravelle will have...

Clamp a scrap of plywood across the inside of the keyhole in the hull and check the "depth" from the outer hull surface to the plywood. That way, if you have any gaps that are going to hold off your plywood transom, you will be able to see and measure it. PB might add another 0.040" like you...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I don't know how much you need to build up, but one trick I did was to put my outer layer of 1708 on in two overlapping pieces. The large overlap in the middle gave the keyhole two layers while giving the rest of the transom one layer. My factory transom only had CSM halfway up, and then a...

As foam expands, it pushes out in all directions. Your forms will need to be fairly rigid to force the expansion upward. Use stiff plywood, for example. Especially if you will be removing it; it can be as braced and heavy as it needs to be.

There were some pour holes on top of me flotation boxes along the sides that I did not plug first. I just sealed them with glass and resin, and it didn't eat the foam. As far as shaping, I would think you'd need at least a rough form to pour it into.

Mine resonated a bit when I hit the floor before it was foamed. Now it sounds dead. I remember being in the cabin of my father's sailboat as a boy and hearing the slap of the waves against the hull. I have a suspicion that the foam reduces that sort of thing. Maybe engine resonance as well...

Somehow, around the time that the site was updated, I stopped getting notifications of new posts by you, PC. I did some digging and found out that you were set to "Ignore". Needless to say, I had a lot of catching up to do. You are making good progress considering how the weather has been...
