Soak the heck out of them. Hot water works better than cold. Soaking in cold, and then heating the soaked wood is another way. Using supports and weight, (or using spacers and clamps) to bow the wood, followed by judicious, repeated wetting, will also curve them over time. I used 3/8"...

Or maybe take todhunter's idea, but use long pieces of (spacer) running parallel to the keel that you can draw them out from the stern-facing side. Apply the PB, lay down the spacer strips/planks/pipes (whatever), slide the deck into place using the spacers as rails, and then slide the spacers out.

I don't know how yours will go together, but I did my sole one panel at a time. I troweled a ridge of PB along allog the top edges of the stringers and bulkheads like a brick layer troweling mortar. Then, I troweled some on the mating edges and any underlapping joiners, and then carefully set...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

Went camping last weekend. Got a few more cushions done this weekend. On these side panels, each section of foam has to be shaped and wrapped separately. It's quite a process. The seat backs and bottoms will be box cushions like the inserts of the bucket seats. Trying to stay consistent...

Thanks for the reassurance. She is beautiful. You guys are the only ones I would mention boo-boos to. We all learn from each others errors as well as accomplishments. Besides, compared to the riff-raff, rag tag boats in my area, this baby will be stunning. It's pretty much "Redneck Yacht...

Meaning that over time I will forget all about the imperfections that almost no one else will care about? When I really took time to look at the factory bucket seat upholstery, I began to see more and more mistakes. After a while, I realiazed that mine was at least as good as the factory...

My pass-through trimming looked like it had been done by a rabid beaver. Both sides were different. Made it tricky to come up with a pattern that would work on both sides and not be huge. Happy with the end result, though. PVC corner molding caps off the raw fiberglass edges nicely...

It was cool weather when I did my foam, so I bored my holes at the bow and stern, and stuck a blow dryer in one until the air came out warm from the other. I used a temp gun to check the hull temp. It got to 85° or more. I bored other holes as I went. Once I started pouring, the heat from the...

I went on to the next step. Installation of the steps. This may well be the first easy-to-board ski boat. No need to climb over seats to get in and out. The goal is to have the boat I want yet still have it family-friendly. Best of both worlds, I hope. The steps are attached to the...

Agreed. The forum gives a sense of accoutability; that someone with similar interest will look at it in a critical manner. It makes us tend to cut corners less, if nothing else.

I saw this pop up in What's New and I was like "Cool! Another resto to follow." Then I was like "Wait... what? 2013?" LOL I'll be following the rest of your build. When do you expect to have it in the water?

If paint: I don't know what Woodonglass uses, but if he uses Rust-Oleum, I second that. I use clean metal primer (white) and Rust-Oleum gloss top coat colors. Thin with acetone if spraying.

I painted the seat bottoms that will hinge up and be visible. I built all of the parts for the boarding steps, but I need some more PVC strip to put it all together with. I added some white hydem gimp to the places where the red and blue carpet meet. It looked a little too "Spidernam" to me...

Resin needs at least one layer of csm to prevent cracking/checking from expansion and contraction. I suppose that if the thickened resin has enough fiber in it it would serve the same purpose. I'm using primer and paint on all of my aboveboard parts. Most of it is upholstered or carpeted as...

They're perfect for upholstered panels. Installation: In a nutshell, you line up your panel and drill a Ø1/2" hole through the panel and the mounting surface in each clip location. The clips have a pilot that fits in the holes. Attach each one with four small screws, and that's it. They hold...

If you leave a section removable, that means it has to go somewhere while you work on the engine. If that happens while you are out on the water, it will likely be in the way. I learned that from owning vans for years and having to take the doghouse out to work on it. I think one could do a...

Doesn't it seem wrong to seal in a tank like that? I hated doing that on mine. Good to see you making good progress.
