    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Now that I am starting to go back together, I am thinking about the layout of the decks and other areas to make her a well outfitted fish and ski. What are everyone's thoughts of putting my trolling motor batteries in the ski locker area? Since I don't keep skis there when fishing, it would...

Maxum boat with Force 125hp outboard.

What model and year Maxum? Mine is a 21 footer and there was no foam below deck. I am in the process of rebuilding now and converting mine to a fish and ski.

Kicked the first 5 gallon resin bucket today and started the second. It took a heap of PB to bed the stringers and make the fillets. I was able to get the first layer of tabbing on them today. I hope to do the second either tomorrow or Wednesday. Then it will be time to make the bulkheads...

Ok. Better late than never on the pictures. I finished bedding the stringers this morning and will probably start tabbing them in this afternoon. Have a tad bit of grinding to do once the fillets set up where I didn't stand back enough by the ski locker. Here are the pictures of the transom...

I just did a thin layer with a trowel and clamped it good to get squeeze out.

On a side note, the glass fibers that I made by shredding some CSM seems to work well. Thanks to whomever it was in another thread for idea of using a paper spreader to make the fibers from CSM scraps.

Unclamped the transom this morning and sanded the keyhole to clean it up. Then waited for the temp to come up for a while and mixed up some PB to fillet around the transom and fill a few uneven spots. Man, the PB took a while to kick off good in this cool weather. Ended up putting a tarp...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

I started all of my resin work with a slow mix ratio because I didn't want to be too rushed with anything. I would rather have to wait longer between tasks than to get half way through and have my resin hardening up on me. It, also, makes it good for clean-up of tools and equipment after...

Yes, I glued it in with PB. I have been mixing my resin on the slow side so I haven't had any issues with kicking off too quickly. Yesterday, it was a nice cool day (70 F) max; so, it went off really well to get it in place and clamped.

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

After waiting around all day (and watching some football) for the temp to get closer to 70, I got the transom wood "glued" in place and clamped yesterday evening. Also put the stringers in place so that once I tab in the transom I can start bedding the stringers. Finally feels like I'm making...

I guess that is the reason we see all of the flaws in the mass produced OEM jobs.

Thanks guys. Was just telling the Mrs. that I think I like working on the boat more than cars. It mixes the mechanical aspects along with some good old wood working both of which I enjoy. Too bad you can't make a living with this hobby.:LOL:

Made a lot of progress over the long weekend. Thanks everyone for your inputs and info that you have given so far. My stringer boards' scarf joints glued up nicely. Found that parchment paper works better than wax paper to protect the joint while gluing up. I put a couple screws in the...

Would it be best to make the resin hairy or just thicken it up good?

I made my first batch of hairy PB today. Neat recipe. I cut out the keyhole and drilled the transom holes oversized then filled them with the HPB. Tomorrow, after it is all completely set I will sand it all even with the wood. I also scarfed and epoxied my stringer boards. Plan to cut the...

Thanks for all the info, BC. I probably could have found most of these answers in the how to links, but the forum upgrade made all of the li Ms go to the wrong threads.

Good luck. I started mine early this year and was hoping to be done over the Summer. Unfortunately, the heat gets to me much more than when I was young. Now I am hoping by end of year.

    Capri 1950 Resto and Modernization

I like the idea of using csm on the end grains in the keyhole. What are you doing about the bolt holes? I'm thinking about drilling the out oversized (before installing the transom) and then filling the back in with peanut butter so when I re-drill them out they will be through the glass...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

I am using your thread along with many others as a guide while working on mine. I didn't see in your thread how you waterproofed the transom bolt holes and keyhole. What process did you use there?

Here is a picture of the transom being glued up and after unclamping this morning. And here is a picture of the keyhole traced onto the transom after I finish cut and rounded off the edges. Now I am trying to decide how to proceed. Should I drill out the bolt holes and fill them with PB...
