I have been doing that some as well as using a space heater. I just would rather it be above 60 in the boat so I am not completely dependent on them. The temp seems to be coming up in the boat OK this morning.

Get "more done today", obviously. Still have a ways to go to get everything done. Hoping to splash her and have my naming ceremony by summer.

Got the ski locker gelcoated yesterday along with a few other things. Hoping, if I can get it warm in the boat, to get done today.

I hear ya' Reserector. Too many things getting in the way. Spent most of last weekend chasing misfires and other issues in one of our cars. Gotta keep them on the road (especially since it was the Expedition that I use to tow the boat). Look for updates after this weekend.

1997 Maxum Bowrider I/O V8 want to replace carpet with fishing friendly alternative

I'm rebuilding my Maxum presently. I am going to gelcoat the entire interior for fishing.

Wow!! Has it really been that long since I posted on this thread. Lots of stuff going on during the holiday to distract me from getting much done. I promise that I've not abandoned it. Now that the holidays are done, I hope to get back on it full steam. The cool weather is slowing me down a...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Looking great. Using the jig and router sure makes doing the scarfs easy. I like how you used the screws to align everything so they don't move. I found that parchment paper worked really well, as well, to get the resin to release. Nice Work!!

Got a pretty bit done over the weekend. Finished PB'ing in the sub-floor of the ski locker as well as the bulkheads for the anchor locker, installed the main cleats on the stringers and got about half of the capping done. Next weekend, I plan to finish capping the stringers and bulkheads as...

In my boat, the carpet was glued directly to the hull there. There were only a couple spots where there was structural support. What I was thinking was that I could put some vertical wood supports tabbed to the hull with foam between them (glassed in). That way the original structural support...

    Fuel Tank

I bought a new Mueller tank for my rebuild. Got a good deal online.

I was thinking about, maybe, using some temporary forms to do the mold and then remove them and cover the foam with glass (e.g., on the gunwales). This would save the weight of having wood there where it isn't needed structurally. Also, maybe something similar around my motor box, etc..

While we're on the subject of foam, I do have a question for the forum. Can you shape and then glass directly over the foam? I am thinking that the resin wouldn't affect the foam (i.e., melt it) so this would be possible. I'm, obviously, not talking about the deck, but in other areas where...

If my final decision is to use foam, here's kinda my foam plan (rough sketch). The yellowish areas would be foamed from the transom to about the consoles (maybe a bit forward of them). Plus there are a couple of spots at the bow that may get some foam. I'll have to do some measuring and...

LOL. Yeah, I keep going back and forth on it. Probably just need to suck it up and do it (if for nothing else the extra support to the deck and sound deadening).

Welcome back. LOL Now that I've tented the hull and am in the stage of putting things back together, I hope to make some pretty steady progress. It was rather pleasant working inside the tent over the weekend even though it can get crowded / cluttered. Yes, I've pretty much decided to...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I would think that a good PB mix would be solid for your scarf joints. You may want to pre-coat the joint surfaces with some thinned resin first to make sure you get a good soak into the wood. Also, when you laminate the stringers and tab them in, you'll be adding additional strength. As...

If I'm reading your response correctly, if I go with the diagram & also put some screws through the stringer into the cleats I should be solid and well encapsulated. Thanks for the input.

I put together a "tent" to cover the boat while I continue to work fiberglassing and installation. Sorry no pictures yet, but I'll give you more soon (it's a mess in the boat/tent right now). A 1500 watt space heater plus my lights are giving me plenty of warmth. It was up to 75-80 degrees in...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Question for people smarter than me or at least with more insight: How safe is it to work inside a tent with the polyester resin with a space heater? Is there a significant risk of flash (fire) from the vapors? Would it be better to "warm it up" in the tent before working the resin, turn off...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Seems like the cooler weather and rain are going to hang around for a while making it tough to work with resin. Looks like I am going to be fashioning a cover/tent for the boat so that I can warm it up.
