    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

A few other accomplishments that I hadn't mentioned in my previous post. Cut out the rear bulkhead for the casting deck. Cut the first section (bow) for the casting deck & top of the anchor locker. I am thinking about ordering some StarBoard pieces for my anchor locker cover and for...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Sorry for no updates lately. I am still making progress, although not really fast. Started pouring the foam under the floors. They aren't kidding that the lower temps affect the expansion. Although I had it nearly 80 degrees in the boat, the cool weather (and hull temp) made the rise...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Looking great. Thanks for the pictures and description of your motor mounts. I'm nearing having to build mine; so, this will be a good reference.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I thought about doing that, too and using PVC to provide drainage from the front lockers (ski & anchor); but, I decided against and will let it be the drain mechanism. Mine is a very small area anyway (maybe only 2" below the locker floors at the bottom vee of the boat. If I find that I get...

Yeah, I'm leaning hard toward covering all of the wood with CSM. May look into finding some 3/4 oz matt to use just for this purpose.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Looking good. In my ski locker floor, I PB'd in the edges and put a single 1708 tabbing. Of course under the floor is open for drainage from the front of the boat (anchor locker) to the bilge. That being said, I then put a full layer of CSM down the stringer, across the floor, and up the...

    Installing new decking question

For my 21', I've already gone through 20 yd CSM, nearly 15 yd 1708, 10 qts of Cabosil, 5 qts to 1/4 milled fibers, and 15-20 gallons of resin. This was just to get the transom, stringers, under deck bulkheads, and bottom of the deck plywood. I haven't really had much waste so far. I just...

Making good progress considering only working on her on the weekends. This weekend, I completed prep of the fuel tank bay. Here is a pic of the gelcoated bay. I also cut my neoprene pads to go under the tank and on the 8 supports that you can see in the pic. I am prepping the cover panel...

    Holes in transom question??

If I were to guess, it was probably a home made self baling drain (assuming the deck was well above the water line).

Also, when I say paint them with thickened resin, I mean after coating initially with plin resin to let it soak in.

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Question for the experts or anyone with an opinion. When building above deck items (non-structural) do you cover both sides of wood with CSM or just "paint" with thickened resin? The type of items i am talking about would be gunnel panels, etc.. I want them water proof to protect from rot.

I am doing 1 layer of CSM on the back sides. On top, I'm planning on 2 layers of CSM. I have also thought about doing a layer of 108 over the walking areas (to provide a texture pattern). However, I'm not sure on that part. I may just leave it at the 2 x CSM and then use a sand texture over...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

Looking nice. I like the way you did your engine enclosure where it opens completely out of the way. I'm rattling ideas around in my head on how to accomplish something similar so that I can easily get to the engine for mechanical work. I'm leaning toward more of a two-piece design where...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Since you have an enclosed place to work, I think summer is doable. That's actually what I'm shooting for as well. I think my better half is getting tired of my weekends being boat time. LOL.

Yes, I've gone back and forth with making it a hatch where it can be removed; but, I've decided that the need to get in there is minimal; so, if I ever do need to get it opened back up, I can just cut off the lid of that one section.

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Got more done this weekend around other things outside of the restoration. As you can see, I have most of the deck in now. The parts nor installed are cut out and awaiting backside FG. I am now working on. The fuel tank bay as well so I can sel it up. Starting to look more like a boat.

Here is a picture of the first piece of deck install. The HD bucket is full of water to help hold it down while the PB sets. I also screwed it to the cleats and fileted I. Across the front bulkhead and a bit down the hull at the front.

Got the bow section of the deck PB'd in place. With this cool weather, set-up time is very slow. Have the heater on it now. Will probably wait until next weekend to do the next section.

On the cleats, I just used pine 2×6 ripped to the shape in post 139. Yes, I just rolled the gelcoat on with a 1/4 nap roller. Plenty good enough for the locker. I have a sprayer that I am going to try on the main interior. If that doesn't work well, I will roll that, too.
