    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Rainy on Saturday morning and then I needed to knock out a couple automotive repairs; so I didn't get to work on the boat until today. It was a beautiful and productive day. First off, had to install the power steering and exhaust Y pipe. Next up was to sit the engine in place and align...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Here is a picture of the pretty white engine bay after completing the gelcoat. Spent this afternoon cleaning up the outdrive gimbal and transom plate. Then my wife and I installed them. Engine bay isn't so pretty and white anymore. 😁 Planning to install the engine tomorrow or Sunday...

Prepping Diamond Tread for Refinish Gelcoat

Just curious (because I'm doing my own texture in my rebuild), how long after you rolled on the gelcoat did you add texture with the bed liner roller? I'm debating doing something like this or adding a non-skid additive such as sand, plastic non-skid additive, or pumice.

Still plugging away . . . I have the bilge area ready for gelcoat. Since it's not a visible area, I'm not trying to make it beautiful, but only functional and sealed against water intrusion. I'm using the evenings, this week, to lay down the gelcoat in that area with hopes of installing the...

Prepping Diamond Tread for Refinish Gelcoat

Reason I was asking is that there is a company that makes texture molds (Gibco Flex Mold) that has a lot of patterns. One of theirs probably matches your boat which would make it really easy to do a small area repair like you are looking at. Not sure of the vendors or cost specifically. I...

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

Lookin' good. Mine is nearing the point of engine install, too. I, too, am gelcoating it all white with the expectation that it won't stay pretty very long, but white will be bright in there.

Separate electrical systems on boat (engine, trolling, house).

Obviously, you have to have a separate electrical system on the boat for a 36V trolling motor vs. the 12V main electrical system of the boat. In addition, I've seen it recommended and have used a separate small 12V battery to run my GPS Fish Finder to help eliminate interference. I'll call...

    Motorguide 36V Pigtail

Since no replies on this thread. I'm going with the larger 8 awg wire for my pigtail. After getting the wire, it does look like the original was probably 10 awg.

Do you want to keep the non-skid pattern or eliminate it?

    Fishfinder help...

You are certainly more technically savvy on the specifics of frequencies, power, and angles than I am; so, I certainly can't contradict anything you said. What I do know is that on my Helix, the readings on-screen certainly appear to cover near 180 degrees (172 degrees ??). I can definitely...

    Fishfinder help...

You're welcome. I try to give good information where I have either experience or some knowledge. I did a lot of reading about Down View and Side View before purchasing my unit a few years ago. My Helix is only a 5 inch model. I bought it second hand from someone who was upgrading and after...

    Fishfinder help...

That's interesting. I'm basing my discussion on Humminbird Side View. I know theirs goes nearly 180 degrees side to side. I can back that up with experience with my Helix Side Imaging. I would be surprised if Garmin's didn't as well. When looking at that link, it isn't 100 percent clear to...

    Fishfinder help...

I think of it this way. Once the water is over my head in depth, it really doesn't matter how deep it is. I still would have to float / swim. LOL One thing I do know, though, is that deeper water can produce larger waves. And it seems (maybe incorrectly) that shallow water conditions change...

    Fishfinder help...

I think that this is incorrect. With Down Imaging, it is the 2x depth for width of beam. For Side View, the beam goes from vertical to nearly 90 degrees to each side. The water column is shown in the middle of the screen with deeper water showing a wider column area in the middle. The...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Another productive day moving toward the light. Here are a few pictures, as promised. First, you can get a look at the first layer of CSM on the new deck. This is was done yesterday but it sure is nice to have that wood covered now. Looking forward under the consoles, you can also see the...

Looking at your picture, above, it looks like you didn't glass the back side of your engine cover. Did you glass any of your above deck structure?

    batteries mounted in the bow?

I had all 3 of my trolling batteries up front and never had any issues. My original setup was in the aisle between the bow. In my new configuration (part of my deck/stringer replacement and conversion to more of a fishing setup), i am putting them 3 across under the consoles.

    Motorguide 36V Pigtail

I have a 36V Motorguide Great White (I believe 100 lb thrust) that I bought 2nd hand. The original owner cut the pigtail off and I can't tell if the original pigtail was 10 awg or 8 awg. I intend to put a new pigtail to a plug in my boat; and want to be sure to use the proper wire size. My...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Had a pretty productive day, today. Put the first layer of CSM on the main deck along with some other stuff. Was hoping to get 2 layers done today but no joy . . . Didn't have enough CSM so I had to order more which will be in Tuesday. A minor setback for the weekend plan. Planning to...

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

Looks great!! You, also answered one of my questions about the tape. I am going to do very similar nonskid in my boat and it will be a contrasting color. So, lay the gelcoat and then pull the tape 30 minutes later works well to get a good edge without lifting or peeling along the border?
