1976 Montego 16- The "Free" Puppy

Sorry to deliver vad news, but that small rot area is just a tip of the iceberg. They rot from the bottom up, so get under where you found that spot and you will find more ! Some of the wood may be enclosed in fiberglass and feel solid, but drill into that encapsulated wood and it won't be...

    Service manual for 7.5 HP

Sorry to hear your issues with E bay, my experiences have always been great ! I have four service manuals purchased from there, some are dirty or greasy from use but all 100% there. I found a downlod for a Mercruiser engine and outdrive that was 900 plus pages, put it on a thumb drive, then...

1956 Johnson 6hp versus evinrude 6hp pros and cons

HP ratings were different from the 50's up thru the late 60's to early 70's. HP was rated at the prop or the crankshaft. Sometimes a prop rated engine is changed to a crank rated engine with different HP ratings but are the same engines, just how the HP is rated.. Not sure the old 7.5 will be...

What does " boating" include ?? Does it require HP ??

    Battery Configuration

In my opinion, the lipo's should go to the trolling motor as it has the highest draw. A good group 31 agm should handle your fish finders. On my boat, I have a good gp 31 agm for a house battery, all electronics, aereators, radios, ship to shore, lights, horn etc and never has dropped below...

    Long shaft motors

What are you doing with your boat ?? That determines motor size. Going fast, skiing, tubing etc needs HP. But an ocassional fishing trip at short distances, any size that is faster than rowing !!

    Long shaft motors

Around the great lakes area, trolling is very popular so folks are looking for small motors to keep wear and tear off their big expensive motors. Most need long shaft motors to keep them higher up out of the prop wash.

    Deep cycle or staeting battery

If you can squeeze in a small battery, look for a deep cycle " wheel chair" battery. I bought a " mighty" wheel chair vattery about 10 years ago, use it fo my pond boat " electric motor" and for my lawn sprayer and a number of other odd 12v needs where a big heavy battery is out. This thing has...

Forget the warning, what does the tach read ?? You need to know for sure what RPM your engine is turning !!

    RPM range question

In have found that proping closer to the max rpm range with a light load works best, as then the motor won't be lugging when a heavier load is onboard. Your lugging your engine all the time now even though you don't feel it. Boat engines are much harder to detect lugging over highway vehicles...

    Need Help

"Still covered in fiberglass" does not mean anything, you really need to drill a hole thru that glass into the wood to check the wood chips. When rot becomes noticible, it is far along and serious work is usually needed. Not trying to ruin your day, but to be safe, you need to do some serious...

2007 Alumacraft Classic 165cs Bilge Pump Question

If manufacturers were held responsible for their stupid assembly techniques, there wouldn't be any mfgrs left !! They all do it, fastest assembly saves the most money ! In some cases, they bank on being able to charge more for repairs....
