    Looking for a bigger boat....

Repeating much of the above here. Max towing capacity is the weight of everything coupled to the hitch. Generally this is based on a combination of the vehicle's stability, traction and power. GVWR includes the weight of everything and everyone in the vehicle, plus the tongue weight load. The...

    Scotch Guard on Sunbrella

Good to know, and if correct blows my theory. I'll check 303's MSD's on their various products. MSD documents don't lie. I've saved wasted dollars before by digging this deep. ...maybe the next time I purchase 303.

    Scotch Guard on Sunbrella

My guess is the regular stuff is for patio furniture and less critical fabrics. I'm also guessing that the main waterproofing component in 303 and other waterproofers (wood, stone, etc) is silicone. Marine grade 303 likely has a larger amount of this. I suppose you could multi-coat with the...

    Scotch Guard on Sunbrella

Yes. great stuff. Per above it is pricey. ....$65-$72/gal. I load it into a hand spray bottle and two-coat the fabric. I double coated my old boat's mooring cover and still had about a pint left over. Good for two yrs. ....hope the new owner appreciates it. When I get my new boat in June the...

    Scotch Guard on Sunbrella

Scotch Guard is a good stain repellent, but won't remove stains. I use 303 Marine Fabric Guard. They claim to be Sunbrella approved. ...I don't know about that, but I swear by the stuff. After application I've filled my mooring cover with a puddle of water. It held like a swimming pool liner...

Brain fart while removing Alpha drive

I've done the same once. No damage to the shift linkage in my case. But that was the first and last time I made the error. Some of the shift linkage is being stressed when you force the foot. So I'd try to remember to shift to FWD from now on.

Can I replace an alpha 1 gen I with an alpha 1 gen II?

This is over my head for solid advice. @achris and other forum gray beards can give you the scoop. But Alpha I to Alpha II conversions are possible, with some effort.

    First Engine Rebuild you did

My first and only full rebuild was my Kawasaki H1F 500 triple two stroke. I did a full rebuild on a Deere 6.9 L diesel when I was working at their Dallas TX branch service and training center. ....that really doesn't count though. That engine should of had a zipper on it. It was rebuild +- 10...

    Driveshaft Gear Rotational Torque

I agree with todhunter and Rick. Wedging a separator between the spacer and either bearing, just a touch, will relieve the press fit load on the two bearings. Then try again. Just be careful to not raise a burr on the aluminum spacer. It could compress under thrust load and leave you loose...

    Nosedive!

The ladder probably caused drag which would have pulled the bow down some. But with too many people sitting forward it probably tipped the scale. A few weeks ago I saw a pontoon start to submarine in calm water at the starboard corner. Simple weight distribution was the problem. This was was a...

    Driveshaft Gear Rotational Torque

When you replace the gear yoke seal the yoke shaft slides out of the assembled gear and bearings and spacer. These remain pressed together at whatever preload existed before disassembly. The tricky part is getting the rolling torque correct on reassembly. The nylock nut holding it all together...

Air Bags to lift docks and boat lifts?

I've spoken by phone several times with Donnie Manns, the owner...or owner's son. Great guy. Good products. I was a little concerned about how the bags would fare eight - fourteen feet below the Mississippi. But when I received the bags I felt better. They are made of tough stuff. And their...

Air Bags to lift docks and boat lifts?

http://www.boatlifthelper.com/ I think I was the OP on the topic a while back. I used two 3' bags to get my marine rail lift in and out this season. I works great.

Best clearcoat safe tree sap remover?

I fuss over our vehicle's finishes like I fuss over our boat's gelcoat. ...Clear coat is simple: Keep it clean, give it a coat of Liquid Glass LG100 once or twice a year. But we have a large clump river birch over our driveway. In the spring it mists down sap. I try to keep the vehicles in the...

Laptop looses wireless connection when on battery

Dell Inspiron 15 3565 Intel 3165 wireless card driver Nov 2018 new My daughter's laptop. Her complaint is wireless internet connection drops when she is on battery only. All is well when she is on the charger. Battery seems fine based on the charge icon. I've tweaked power settings as best as...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 trim issue

Low lube in the reservoir, or more likely milky oil, will verify this. Oil leaks past the rod seal when trimming in keeping the drive up. When pushed in water can be sucked back in past the seals. This water is then pushed back into the reservoir when you trim up. This should show itself with...

The day two old boating pals realize they've become two old drifty/dozy boating pals

I recently helped my long time boating pal Tom do a long overdue replacement of his Alpha II lower shift cable in the parking lot of his marina. Teamwork. I removed the trim senders and broke loose the bell housing pivot pins while he disconnected the cable from the shift plate. Outdrive off...

    IBC stretch?

Here is my question. When wiring a lighting only circuit downstream from 20 amp circuit protection is it safe (not a question about compliance) to use 14 ga/15 amp wire for the switch pigtails? Here's the back story. The original owner of our river house wired the whole place with 12 gage wire...

    Boating Karma

I saw this dead pontoon about 200 yds up our slough, two younger people paddling with an older guy than me in the boat. They weren't making much headway downstream to the ramp. Good current, but better south wind. I saw several boats pass with their heads turned away. This pricey wake boat from...

    Air Boat on Deep Water?

I heard this thing rumbling for 40 seconds as it idled up our slough. He opened it up in front of me. Clearly a big block engine. For the noise and power it uses it doesn't move very fast....not compared to a big block glass boat. It made my ears hurt from 200' away. I can't imagine sitting on...
