Mercruiser 170 runs bad when hot - voltage regulator issue?

you should be showing over 12 volts when running , around 13 is good when cruising @ 2500 IMO. I'm guessing what you are experiencing when you operate the trim is you are taking too much power from the system to keep enough power to the coil to keep the motor running properly. point and...

    Carburetor clean versus carburetor rebuild

? do you not know how to check if either of those things are faulty , FYI> a quick check with a magnifying glass on the needle and a shake and inspection by eye will tell if the float is in reusable order or not. this is part of the problem with society today people are too useless to inspect...

    Carburetor clean versus carburetor rebuild

it not being cheap in most cases to reassemble a carb using original or used parts. IMO its being practical , reason : in most cases the carb is just dirty and in need of a clean , the parts in there would have been working just fine. as i posted above , older dirt bikes are expensive for...

    Carburetor clean versus carburetor rebuild

i always try a good ultrasonic clean first , trying to avoid damaging gaskets or Orings. if issues still are not resolved or new ones pop up then its rebuild kit time. in the grand scheme of things , rebuild kits are cheap insurance for a few years of having a trouble free carby. i work on a...

hey Lou , yes , those alloy 4.3 gaskets i used the final time were quite solid as compered to the plastic felpro ones i originally used. i found the same that tightening them gown more than spec when i used the thicker felpro marine gaskets on my 5.7. it makes me wonder if that 11 foot pound is...

Water in Oil (Again) Head Scratcher

i also found when tightening the intake manifold with the marine gaskets that just snugging them down tight to a guestamate was better result than a torque wrench to 11 foot pound which seemed to be a bit loose for my liking. . edit to answer your last post. ,split the risers from the...

Water in Oil (Again) Head Scratcher

speculating where water is getting into the oil is a waste of time and money . i recently went through this ordeal with 4.3 motors only to find cracked blocks. pressure testing will for sure disclose where your leak is coming from seeing as so much is coming in. i rigged up a privative tester...

    NO SPARK!!!! Thunderbolt IV headscratcher

you have an oil pressure sensor or temp sensor cutting the ignition would be my guess . ? does your motor have the module on the left hand exhaust manifold , if so that is tripping and not allowing spark to the sensor in the distributor. sorry for the vague explanation , i just know from when i...

Need not peeing on first season fire up

okay then no poppit or Tstat in that motor, then it must have a corrosion problem, being such an old motor that would not be out of the question i guess.

that's pretty bad detonation to cause a plug to blow apart like that , i too would be interested to see the rest of the plugs. I'm thinking OP should check the cam for a worn out lobe on the exhaust .
