I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Did some more photo-editing. Am thinking of having the extensions be triangles instead of squared off at the back. That will give me a little more room when loading the boat onto the trailer. As it is now, the boat definitely hits the bunks long before it could bump into the frame. If I make...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I was looking at the KF trailer this morning and I think that I need to add some additional framing farther aft in order to keep the transom tie-downs from rubbing the new paint off the stern. Wouldn't like that a bit! Since the hull is going to be drying/curing for several more weeks...

    Dad's old boat 1968 Starcraft Jupiter/ Merc 650

Yes, aluminum duct tape. And I did glue the individual blocks together with waterproof construction adhesive. The trash bags I found online by doing a search for HDPE trash bags. I used the Owens Corning Foamular in the 3/4" pink, which was all that was available at the local big box store.

    Dad's old boat 1968 Starcraft Jupiter/ Merc 650

Pool noodles have been pretty much ruled out for flotation. They just don't work very well. Here's how I did the flotation for my Kingfisher. Pink foam home insulation. The blue is where I covered the pieces with HDPE garbage bags which are gasoline proof. Folks generally use the pink or...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Hi guys! Thanks for all the kind words! And inspiration! It's been a long, tough row to hoe for me but we achieved that milestone in good spirits, thanks in no small part to all of you providing guidance, advice, suggestions, encouragement, and yes even some chastising. :p It ALL helped...

Here's a single model that might take a few months to build. Not me, but definitely a time consumer. :p

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yesterday morning we got out to the garage early enough but had to wait for the humidity to drop before I could paint. Once I got started, it took me just about 45 minutes of actual spray time to get the black paint laid down. That did not include periodic rest and cool-down breaks...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

My wife did all the masking on the KF for me. She's an artist, limber and patient enough to get it right. While it's possible that I could have done it myself, it literally would have taken me a week! As it was, it took my wife (with me and the boy as support) about 6 hours to...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

While waiting for my wife's availability last week to mask the boat I had to cut the grass. I've been needing a grab handle on the right side of the tractor, so I appropriated this old one from the KF and put it to use. Right after doing that I cut the grass and it worked great. :joyous:

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy. And that's a fact. Been a tough couple days due to my own inattentiveness. I won't bore you with the details. Costly mistakes too. :frusty: And more news from the doc yesterday afternoon. They're gonna quadruple my steroid dose. Oh goody. HOWEVER...

After 3+ hours, the new tape peeled off clean as a whistle! :D

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Picked up the new masking tape from NAPA this afternoon. It definitely has less tack than the other blue tape I'd used before. Took it home and immediately put a test strip on the stern of the KF where it will be painted over with black anyway so even if the paint lifts it'll be hidden by the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Hey guys, I need a recommendation for a low adhesive strength vinyl masking tape. Weather was perfect this morning so we went out and started prepping for the black accent coat. It's been 10 days since I applied the 2nd white coat. While masking with 3M PN06408 vinyl masking tape, 1/2 inch...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Happy Independence Day! :usa2: :usa: :cheer2:  Thanks for all the good info on the paint and masking. :) Today we (all 3 of us!) went out to cut the masking paper to the correct shape. My wife did the work, the boy assisted and I supervised while sipping coffee! We got...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Okay, time to talk about masking, wait duration and tape removal. Yes, I've done a lot of reading and watched a lot of videos and for the most part they're all about house painting, anti-fouling paint, fiberglass, auto-body and clear coating after unmasking. Not a lot of help for single stage...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, yesterday was awesome and today was a complete bust. The boy and I got together for lunch with a new acquaintance and his son yesterday. The guy is a big-time boat fella and used to own a large marina. He still owns a LARGE lot (many acres) where he stores boats, trailers and whatnot...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I really shouldn't post before my 3rd cuppa coffee. :ranger: Forgot to answer your questions. Silly me. I'm absolutely satisfied with how the paint turned out. The wait... that's another matter altogether! I'm just glad that I finally got the paint on there so that I can...
