    SX-A thread repair

Not such a great repair after all. It is leaking just sitting in the shop. This is the first time I ever have been grateful the gear oil is serviced above a vent hole. This would have gone unnoticed until I drained the water out of it in 100 hours. Need a different plug and seal than stock to...

    SX-A thread repair

I had to go to NAPA. If the constant supply of air through the bottom plug hole and the grease on the drill and tap worked as intended I should be in good shape. Thanks for the help.

    SX-A thread repair

Vent plug started fine but never tightened up. What’s the popular fix? Heli-Coil?

Found some rocks with my prop...

I was faced with the repair or replace aluminum prop this week for a club boat that was missing a chunk of one blade. I dug around and found a spare stainless steel prop. I am still waiting for word from the money handlers on what they want to do about the broken prop. We pretty much have to...

Found some rocks with my prop...

That worked out nice. My starting point was about like yours but the dent mostly broke out for me. I think it cost $125 to have it fixed by a prop shop after I broke it.

    Code 1109 60hp 4 stroke

I had to google the 1109 code because I didn’t want to walk out to the shop. What I got back was fuel delivery, ignition or possible guardian activation. Is there a reason you are only looking at the fuel system?

    Break in

We do it per the owner’s or maintenance manual. Whichever is more convenient to get a hold of.

Found some rocks with my prop...

The only time I tried to bench true an aluminum prop the blade I was straightening cracked. Aluminum doesn’t like to bend and, unlike steel, has no memory of where it was. The last time I asked a boat dealership if there was anyone in the area working on props I got 3 phone numbers to try.

Boat gets stuck in tunnel near Los Angeles International Airport.

Those signs aren’t always accurate. A resurfacing of the road can change the clearance without a corresponding update to the sign. Around here a load like that would require pilot cars to alert traffic of the oversized load and to check clearances before the load gets there.

prop continues to loosen up on shaft

Where is that written in the manuals or am I not comprehending what you typed? Never heard of torquing while loosening which is how I read your post. Tabs have always folded just fine for me at 55. Some motors call for a low torque around 40 not to exceed 90 while attempting to insert a cotter...

prop continues to loosen up on shaft

Interesting… my 150 manual says prop nut torque is 55 lbs-ft with no mention of loctite. Edit: my manuals don’t mention SSR.

Trailer bearing blowout. Need help with repair(s)

I had a bearing set fail on a trailer that was less than one year old. I didn’t catch it until I started out the driveway on the next trip. The trailer company (Bear) warrantied the axle and sent a complete setup with springs and all. I pulled the hubs and repacked the bearings before I...

Outboard MARINER 75 ELPTO wont start

I had a 90 about that vintage. It acted similar. The main harness connection was the problem on mine. The contacts were corroded. Disconnecting and reconnecting the harness would make it work for a while. I tried to clean it a couple of times but it needed new contacts on both sides of the plug.

    Sticking weather seals

Thanks, I was thinking maybe some tire talc or baby power since they work well as lube for installing inner tubes in tires. Wasn’t sure about an open environment and the boats aren’t mine so any mess I make must be cleaned up.

    Sticking weather seals

Thanks but looking for a solution that keeps the seals from sticking to the side they shouldn’t stick too. There are a lot of products to use as glue.

    Sticking weather seals

I dropped a Yamaha seal into the lake when it stuck just long enough to not fall back on the engine a few years back. I glued that one to the middle cover. The Mercurys want to pull up about midway on both sides. I am pretty sure they would come completely off if I did stop and pry them back...

    Creaking/popping power trim

Good question on the grease fitting for the pivots. After I made my comment above, one of the new Hondas came through. No popping yet but It creaks. One year old motor with 120 hours sounding just like some that are 7-8 years old with over 1200 hours. I sprayed a silicone lube on the rams for...

    No telltale Nissan 90hp

Not much can go wrong with the housing unless it was run out of the water. It can’t pump water if the housing doesn’t hold the cup in place. I had a Yamaha in here last week where the alignment tabs on the cup were bent flat and the housing was damaged where the tabs are supposed to sit. The...

    No telltale Nissan 90hp

Just noticed it is not stated the impeller has been replaced, just checked. How is the impeller being checked? Is it actually being pulled off the shaft? Is the woodruff key in place or are the slots damaged? Does the impeller have a permanent set to it (curved so it slides in and out of the...
