Merc 350 bolt v 2 barrel carb fluctuating RPMS

I would disconnect the tach and see if the mis in timing goes away. Is there play in the distributor shaft/rotor? Also verify that voltage is not dropping to positive side of coil. Also may disconnect the shift interrupt for testing if it is an alpha It could be the module but might look to...

    1987 Merc 180 (“470” 3.7 litre) won’t idle

Purple powers the coil when in run not in diagram linked below it is a resistance wire, everything but this resistance wire will be 12 v, the resistance wire drops it to 9 v at the coil when in run. 12v is only supplied off the purple yellow during cranking. get the factory engine manual for...

    Rotax 717 and 720 reliability

it does come down to how they were maintained, oil used and if they ran lean. If compression is still good that likely means it was reasonably cared for. Not exactly the same engine but we just sold our 2004 GTI RFI LE (787 engine) with just shy of 300 hrs on it. We bought it with about 100...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Many here speak highly of the SEI drive as one can bolt it on and go, plus it comes with a 3 year warranty. So for an older boat owned by a DIYer its a good fit. I personally have never had a drive I maintained let go so I have never used one. you got the idea keep and eye on the lube level and...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

you can see some staining from moisture especially on top bearing that is above the lube level these were taken out of my gen 2 never had any water show in the drive lube, but had sat for years before I got it (10 years old with only 37 hrs on it). Drive made no noises, got torn down because I...

    Mercruiser 5.0 Misfiring

Sounds more electrical wonder if you are losing 12 v run, either loose battery connections or grounds, or cannon plug between helm harness and engine harness

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

if you still have a greaseable gimbal bearing the grease ends up in bellows when you grease it. If there was little to no lube in drive its going some where. I would start by pressure testing the drive to see where it is leaking. if you are experienced mechanically inclined get the factory...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

It should be basically full to the vent plug on the side is your bellows full of oil ? Would assume your input shaft is leaking . Given the age of the drive would not be surprised if it needs all the seals .

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Would think the hot running is what lead to the shutters falling off, usually when water flow is impeded everything on the exhaust cooks off

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Larger diamter is for the input yoke shaft seal. you will have to remove that to remove the vertical gear to get at this seal
