Volvo Penta SX-M Mysterious Rattle. Not U-Joints. Not Gimbal.

Only thing I can think is gimbal bearing is not fully seated or the new drive has a bad bearing in it

    Alignment adjustment, witness marks

I’m pretty it’s It’s inverse it witness marks are heavy on bottom then lower the front …as you’ve seen raising isn’t helping go back to where you started and maybe half a turn lower and then check alignment

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

what did the driveshaft seal under the water pump look like? the seal carrier (yellow plastic) can deform especially if they run hot or was run dry. Given the age might be worth pressure testing while you have it apart

    2 stroke longevity?

As others have stated depends on how they are maintained. We have a2004 sea doo GTI rfi le , bought it with 100 or so hours and have had it 14 years and up around 300 now. I won’t say it runs perfectly but it has been easy on the wallet if you can turn some wrenches. parts are fairly cheap as...

    Prop change on my bowrider

yes when the Outboards get bigger the hub diameter is the same as stern drive props- you just need to make sure it fits an alpha one. look on ebay for enertia or revolution 4 props they fit both outboards and stern drives. When I got my new to me boat in 2016 I spent 2-3 years trialing props...

    Prop change on my bowrider

The spitfire doesnt have much bite in my experience. I get the same WOT rpm with a 23" spitfire as I do a 21" revolution 4. there is that much slip with the spitfire.

    Prop change on my bowrider

As others have mentioned is the tach accurate? Are you able to hit the rev limiter which should kick in around 5050-5100 rpm. If you cant hit the limiter I would verify the tach is correct before changing props. I like 4 blades as for how I use my boat it is more suited. But of course this...

Milky oil from oil cooler failure

As mentioned just keep changing oil and filter get cheapest oil and you don't have to completely fill the oil pan just run it for a bit when it milks up keep changing it. When it gets clear or almost clear then get the engine under load to cook off any moisture

    Rear main seal 5.7

GM supplied the base engine to Mercruiser (tinned longblock), so the rear main seal is not made by mercruiser its made by GM (or for GM by a parts supplier). Felpro is generally considered high quality stuff. Most likely it go buggered going around the engine stand. When you get the engine back...

    Oil Pressure Sender failure modes?

Well yes and no... I think the factory OP switch is tripped at 4 or 7 psi .... so at lower rpms yes it may save an engine but higher rpms ... if it was low level and you had 15 psi at 3k rpm not sure it would help We a grew up with older hardware that had no trim gauge, dog clutch drives...

    Oil Pressure Sender failure modes?

yeah always watching OP and temp. Had an over heat last summer due to weeds on outdrive... had been towing my daughter skiing then picked her up took off through some weeds and it went from zero to alarm going off in an instant

    Oil Pressure Sender failure modes?

you must be bored or out of beer... looks like the thing works now so leave it alone. Seriously though I converted my factory gauge on my 65 GTO (was 0-60 psi) bc my engine makes about 80 psi and gauge was always pegged above idle. I was able to find a 0-80 or 90 psi sender that had same ohm...

    No Trailer and Trim Up

your description makes sense, but the switch being NO is opposite of way you would think it would work... would think its NC until bellhousing hits it ... I would just jumper it out so the trim up works all the time. keep it simple and if you pay attention driving it its no issue.

Bravo 1 to Bravo 3 Conversion

if 6 ppl plane out time was good you are probably in the ballpark. Will be lucky $$$ if you can run the same props.

Main Jet size for carb 7043183?

As Ad points out I have seen it for some carbs in the carb section of manual or some addendums, but not for anything that old. I think I saw one for high altitude jetting but again not for a 165 engine. if you can verify the size by getting a NOS jet may be best. if the plugs look good may...

    No Trailer and Trim Up

Do you have a wiring diagram for your set up? I know the earlier ones are a bit more complicated... If i recall you have the three button switch where you have to press the upper two to get all the way up? I suspect what ever limits the trim up is bad as well as the switch you just jumpered...

Main Jet size for carb 7043183?

Sometimes you see them in the carb tune up specs in the factory manual but a quick search I cant find it either... How do the plugs look? these guys seem to have one NOS jet with PN AD listed for sale. Could buy it for less than $10 and cross check...
