Changing outdrive on my inline 6 165 HP.

are you talking about the approx 4" diameter quad ring (square)? or the orings on the driveshaft itself ? if either are not in right place will be a ***** to get on . the big quad rings needs to be glues into the bellhousing and set up before putting drive in. Gear Oil In My Bilge

All boats will have some oil in the bilge... Do you have a lube bottle on the engine? watch the level there to see if it is dropping. If it is the small rubber line back to transom can leak or if the input shaft seal of the drive leaks into bellows it can eventually get enough in there to leak...

Another gear oil thread... 80w-90 vs. 90

they do have additives that are supposed to make it still lubricate in the presence of water. You can use automotive gear lube which also works fine except when it got water in it. I used to use Mobil 1 75w90 in my sea do jet pump instead of the OEM lube. If definitely was less tolerant to water...

Changing outdrive on my inline 6 165 HP.

Likely one of gaskets is wrong in pump install water should be coming up. I can’t imagine that yeh impeller blades could block the flow but might be worth bumping the starter to move the impeller and see if water comes up. Only time I’ve seen that is when an Impeller blade broke off and closed...

Changing outdrive on my inline 6 165 HP.

There are o rings on the shaft that seal to gimbal bearing and ther can be a build up of grease on the splines and in the coupler that can make it hard to seat the last bit. Did u have it in forward both drive and shifter when you put it back on ? That makes the shift shoe line up. Drive needs...

Run Merc 3.0LX on external fuel tank

Depends on what you find when you empty the tank. Empty all the contents. When I have this with old cars and rusty steel tanks I have used my vacuum extractor to suck it out, put it in covered 5 gal buckets And let it settle out. in my case I let the rust and Schmeg settle, sucked of the top...

Run Merc 3.0LX on external fuel tank

Plumb the external tank into existing fuel filter (change the filter). before putting on the rebuilt carb purge fuel line from new tank to carb into a jar, make sure the fuel is clean. Could also take a sample off fuel on on carb before you change fuel tanks by pumping into a jar see if there...
