See post #6....jerry says that a bad fuel pump or gasket should have nothing to do with low compression in that cylinder......OP said he resealed the port cover and new gasket for fuel pump. Time to take a look at #3 cylinder I think.....
He should have been able to see the side of the piston...
Been there, done that with a jack.....the angle is the ticket. LU can get heavy quickly trying to stab it in there, lol.
Your idle issue....to me sounds like a fuel starvation problem.....if you didn't clean/rebuild the carbs before it might be time to do it. Check all fuel hoses, primer...
If you get no response on here, you can call maxrules(master tech) and ask Bill Kelly the owner. Or call Franz at Franz Marine.....he would know for sure. (y)
The transfer port gaskets can be a source of trouble.....can cause a cylinder to suck air and run lean. You can test them by spraying starting fluid all around the intake side while running...the engine will stall if they are leaking. I too used a sealer on those gaskets.....against the advice...
Is the fuel pump gasket good? Might be time to pull the head and take a looksy.....could be a bad head gasket.....or scored #3 cylinder/piston.....post some pics if you find anything damaged or don't look right.
You didn't mention the carbs.....did you clean/rebuild them, check the floats, etc.....install a clear inline filter between fuel pump and carbs to see if fuel is flowing or not. How long has this engine been "non running" ?
You could install a clear inline fuel filter between the pump and the carbs.....not so much for filtering but to give a visual that the pump is working...something like a Fram G2 or similar.....
Some folks have said they got no water out of the tell tale while on muffs.....either not enough water pressure from hose or muffs not sealing good. Could try using a deep bucket with the water about 6 inches or more above the cavitation plate.....see what happens....FYI
" It is also against the kaw to charge folks for work not done correctly " This is a Civil case, not a Criminal one.....sadly the law favors the shops in these cases.
Don't know the law where you are, but if you do that where I live the mechanic can put a lien on your car, boat or whatever.....and repossess it until you pay. Would have to fight it in court.....it is a racket designed to protect the shop.
