    Engine replacement help…

I got a new base engine from Michigan Motorz in 2016. They sell remans that are fairly reasonably priced. Obviously cheaper if you can get a truck engine from wrecking yard but for turn key was a nice cost balance in between piecing it together and new bobtail. They did give me $150 for my...

    Engine replacement help…

KISS principal may be just keep it V6. Not sure if your current V6 is a 4 bbl / 205hp or 2 bbl/175 hp version. A Vortec Headed 4.3 is like 220 /225 hp with a 4 bbl carb, and weighs less than a V8. 4.3 usually cracks in the valley below the heads. Not sure how much it had been used, they some...

    Engine replacement help…

Yeah I agree finding and older non vortec may be difficult given the age and makes less power. ou can easily find marine intakes for vortec 4.3 or vortec 5.0/5.7 Engines. If you have a new carb I’m sure that can work, but may need re jetting. on the swim platform brackets not sure if they are...

    Engine replacement help…

Absolutely - 4.3, 5.0, or 5.7 get a newer vortec headed one, change head gaskets, freeze plugs, circ pump, and swap over your accessories. You will need a marine intake, and carb. If yo have a thunderbolt the distributors are the same except trigger wheel and cap. Although the engine will run...

    Engine replacement help…

I was worried he expected you to fix it. Yes 4.3 and 5.7 are a lot of same parts sans 2 cylinders. It saved me about $1500. I even was able to reuse most of my cooling hoses, fuel pump and filter, wiring harness (did need a V8 ignition module), starter, motor mounts, flywheel cover, coupler...

    Engine replacement help…

Yeah they didn't winterize. The boat I have now same thing. I bought it at a good price knowing the PO had cracked the block- 37 hrs you could eat off the inside of the engine. I hope you are not on the hook for your friends lack of attention to detail? Yes a V8 can go in its place. That's...

    Engine replacement help…

Would imply water down the intake And possible hydrolock. Does it still have compression. Still can’t explain where oil went… did they check the be fore use ? Guessing not ?

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

if you had 150 lbs compression on adjoining cylinders your short block is probably in excellent shape. Doesnt look like any detonation has been occurring nor water ingress. Have a valve job done and go boating.

What does this marking mean on this new to me outdrive?

If the drive was low on lube and has sat I would pop the top cap and make sure there is no corrosion on the upper bearing.

    Hybrid Vehicles

We are on our second hybrid. First one was a 06 highlander , still was running very well at 230 k when we sold it. Woukd tow our 21 ft sea ray with. Our current Highlander we did not get a hybrid which I regret. Just git a ‘21 Venza as my daughter now has my old Camry. Really like the fact it...

1997 7.4 mercruiser mpi blue water inboard

Would do a leakdown test. Could just be valve related and a valve job could fix it, but loss of oil pressure if accurate , also indicates bearing wear. michigan motorz offers remans if you don’t have a local machinist

    Freshwater Dry Joint Manifold

Normally yes fresh water they will last the boats life if properly winterized. I would buy elbow and or riser gaskets and inspect what the passages look like. You can take them off and test with acetone If you like. when you summarize it and use it , open the drain plugs and probe with wire...

2003 Chris Craft Launch 25 - VolvoPenta engine replacement - need engine advice

For $13 k in parts would think that is an OEM long block with multi year warranty.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

It can be deflating but look at it this way - If they correctly magnafluxed or pressure tested the cooling jackets on block and heads before rebuild it would have to be a gasket or assembly issue. Also you have caught it early enough that it wont damage any of the machine work you have done...

2003 Chris Craft Launch 25 - VolvoPenta engine replacement - need engine advice

I assume remote oil filter line or oil cooler line blew? Obviously using a Volvo engine will cost more but probably comes with better warranty. Will they install a new GM base engine ? it is litterally the same long block/base engine Merc and VP build into their engines for about $2k less...
