2003 Chris Craft Launch 25 - VolvoPenta engine replacement - need engine advice

I'd be interested to see where the quotes come in. I think $20k soup to nuts would be light if you want to upgrade engine as part of a complete repower, incl transom and drive. If rest of boat is in excellent condition may make sense, but off the cuff I think you would be nipping $30k. For...

    Boat Trailer Bunk Carpet

Yes I would prefer to leave the bottom open but have had trailers factory equipped both open at bottom and completely wrapped. My current Magic Tilt has open bottoms on the cypress bunks - issue is I have had carpenter bees drilling holes in the bunks... just something to keep in mind. I think...

Salvage auction boat - can this be repaired?

I would inspect it and make sure it had not sunk and engines were not under water, regardless of what the "carfax" says. One way to look at is what is blue book on the boat in no damaged condition. Obviously to get totaled the repair was more than blue book, so unless you do the work yourself...

2003 Chris Craft Launch 25 - VolvoPenta engine replacement - need engine advice

Were you happy with the power level it had when it was working? I assume you are looking for a complete bobtail to mate up to your existing drive ? Or are you looking for pulleys to prop complete repower? Looking for carbed or injected? Seems like you budget is bigger than typically seen here...

    rebuild 1989 bluefin 17 ft

Yeah it does look like since it’s down in that recess someone has a sense of humor… work it back with two flat heads . If you can get one leg of it out of the groove even if you bend or break the clip. clips are cheap from McMaster carr or fastenal like place, so bend it etc to get it out of...

    Mercarb 2BBL vacuum hose?

Yes makes sense. So put a nipple where the pipe plug is and put the Tyson tube up from mechanical fuel pump. interestingly while new build engines (except 3.0) used electric pumps from mid 90s on, the merc reman 357 alpha/ bravo engines they use a simple mechanical pump , assume they machine...

    Alpha won’t trim underway

It would seem that the thrust of the prop is over coming the ability of the cylinder to hold? I would try to disconnect the cylinders and see if you can push them in while the trim is off. I had one of my cylinders bleed down like this , couldn't even hold the drive up when I was put drive back...

    Mercarb 2BBL vacuum hose?

Is this a pipe plug (circled) in your photo? that I believe is where I had one on my Mercarb. Mine had a 90 degree elbow threaded on one end and hose nipple on other. like this fitting in amazon link -...

    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

There is no shifting in the upper only the lower. It is just a right angle gear reduction. When you shift into forward to reassemble put the prop on and use a bungee to hold it CCW. It seems counter intuitive because it is a RH prop- with pressure on it CCW it acts like the load water puts on...

    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

You found your not smoking but melted gun. If you take your time and go back in with OEM parts you will have no issues. Would also check the condition of your exhaust flappers as they are likely melted too. Obviously some one let it run without water at some point or maybe water tube wasn't...

    Mercruiser 200 V8 Alpha 1 MR Drive

You are not getting enough water through the engine and into the exhaust to cool the exhaust. Those parts are in the exhaust passage of the outdrive. Could it have been over heated before you owned it ? would verify impeller is not slipping on its hub. Oem merc parts are worth the money here...

    Aluminum intake corrosion

did bodies both the carb bodies and valve covers after bead or soda blasting them. Has held up ok for 2-3 years. I suspect if you degrease hit it with scotch brite clear it you will be ok in terms of decent corrosion resistance

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

Nice looking boat and love the old Evinrudes of that generation. I have a 1956 5.5 with same paint scheme. Have not run it in years, need a working pressurized tank.…

    Distributor Shaft Seal Replacement

If you get the id, od, thickness of it and go to any bearing supply house or McMaster Carr you can likely find a suitable replacement. May be part or size numbers on it as well.

thanks , its really a 20/20 car- at 20 ft and 20 mph it looks perfect, just dont get too close…. seriously only intent is that you know how deep the hole is… be interested to see how it goes .

    Aluminum intake corrosion

Usually bead or soda blast it and clear coat it. I’ve used Eastwood Satin Diamond clear on things like carb bodies etc keeps them from corroding. I assume it is on the engine ? Maybe you can hit it with a scotch rite and clear coat it

    Mercarb 2BBL vacuum hose?

Only mechanical fuel pumps use the diaphragm rupture line. If you have a mid 90 s and up motor with electric fuel pump you won’t have one
