tapping does nothing unless the wood was wet, rotted, dried, ants ate whats left of the rotten wood, etc. then you hear the hollow sound.

your nearly 40 year old welcraft will most likely need all new plumbing, a new macerator, and unfortunately, since the boat was built with a lot of plywood in the structure..... new stringers and transom.
