    Chrysler 318 cooling issues

Get a bucket of water and some hose connected to the intake side of the pump as close as possible, submerge the hose in the bucket and see if it draws water. Also disconnect the discharge side to see how much water comes out. I know this sounds strange but give it a try.

89- 5.8l OMC with Holley 4160 flooding problem

As Scott just mentioned about extra gaskets in the Holley kit. There 2 different gaskets for the power valve, triangular and round. It all depends on the outlet nozzle position on the valve. If the wrong one was used that could be your problem.

    1968 bertram 25 flybridge

Very possible if the exhaust was going through the drive. All the water going through the drive was hot. While the lower was in the water the upper was roasting.

    1968 bertram 25 flybridge

The best thing to do is to connect the incoming water from the drives to the incoming water from the hull pickups. Mercruiser recommends this arrangement. Especially if the exhaust is routed through the drives. IF the boat is out the water then a drive flush out will be enough to run the engines.

    Power Steering Pump Mounting?

2X with AD on the port side mounting. I cannot remember ever seeing one on the starboard side. Original Chevy V8s had the pump mounted low on the port side that caused engine alignment problems with the adjustment strut touching the bilge. Mercruiser then provided a relocation kit.

    Mercruiser 160 carburetor

The “T” that is on the 160 was something the previous owner added. Just remember all marine fuel pumps with the small male fitting for the Tygon hose must be routed to the carburetor’s air horn so that the fuel stays out of the bilge and into the carburetor only. The style that Chris posted can...

need help figuring out how to remove a starter from a 1996 4.3GL

One reason you may be having a problem is the bolts are probably metric rather than fractional. The heads may be either 14 or 15 MM.

    Mercruiser 160 carburetor

The Tygon hose should only connect the rear of the air horn to the fuel pump vent. Use the 165 valve cover with the vent tube connected to the flame arrestor as you posted. Engines with the plastic bowl connected to the fuel pump as in the picture Chris posted had the short hose that went...

New, steering cylinder locks to starboard

If you disconnect the cable from the control valve by removing the pin through the cable end and the cable slightly pulled out from the control valve try starting the engine, the unit should not move in either direction since the control valve has no signal from the helm. If it does the same...

    U joint shaft

Most times when the gimbal bearing and universal joints need replacing is from water incursion in the bellows. If so then the seal surface on the input yoke is rusted and will not hold pressure and leak into the bellows. You will then have to remove the driveshaft bearing retainer. Is the...

88 sea ray with 3.0 mercruiser.

Depending on what part of the country may also help. I generally adjust the choke where the butterfly is just barely closed. Since the choke is electric it is normal for it to close on a warm engine when the engine is not running. And of course there has to be 12 volts when the engine is running.

    Changing oil without a dipstick

In addition to the above post universal dipstick tube kits are available a Summit. There is one that has a npt thread that will screw into the brass block that the Sierra kit has.

    Changing oil without a dipstick

If you cannot get a location for the dipstick this is something I have done. Sierra # 18-7891. This is the kit with a double inlet 1/4” npt and a 1/2” 20 male that threads in the pan drain. Make sure that the threads are not metric. The flexible hose is used to drain the oil through the bilge...

1986 Bayliner Capri won't start after running great all weekend

there was a lot of Bayliners sold here and the dealer did not do any warranty work so quite a few ended up at my shop. I started getting complaints about hard to start sometimes. They would crank and crank and the engine would start when the key was released from start position. The added wire...

1986 Bayliner Capri won't start after running great all weekend

There is something that will help the engine start quicker. Look at the starter solenoid and on the out board side there is a un used male spade connected. Make up a wire from the spade to the + or Bat side of the coil. This provides 12 volts to the coil when cranking. The genuine Volvo...

1977 OMC 235/Ford 351W Low Manifold Vacuum, Stalls when letting off throttle

Go back over the valve adjustment. I only tighten the lock nut 3/4 of a turn after there is no slack and the push rod still spins. I doubt if there is any damage. There is a procedure to set the valves cold by starting @ tdc and rotating the crankshaft by hand and adjusting certain valves...

    Mercruiser 160 mystery electronic ignition

The one advantage the Petronics or any other conversion has is it is more tolerable to slightly worn distributor bushings. The main thing to do now is to have a machine shop add a lower bushing, replace the upper and make sure the centrifugal advance is in good condition. That way the points...
