    76 Mercruiser 165 refresh recommendations

The flush out will give more than enough water. Using a bungee cord to secure the flush out to the drive is good insurance that it will not slip off while you inside the boat.

    1977 seaswirl omc 190 issues

2X s with Scott on the ignition. You might want to look into a Petronics ignition conversion. OMC used Mallory and Petronic brand distributors. If there are no overheating issues at this time you may get by on replacing the pump in the drive for now. How much material is left on the ball gears...

1973 Mercruiser Sterndrive hinge pin question

1/4” 28 . You do not want to shear those stainless nails. They cannot be drilled out because the drill bit will cut everything else but the nail. Try some heat if you have a torch. That is the only way I have ever been able to remove them. The replacement pins are larger and I actually...

Watch for any color change in the oil. After you get it running and warmed up then check the compression. It is no different than an automobile engine basically. You will have to work over the cooling system. Try to obtain a Mercruiser service manual.

conversion from teledyne to oildyne tilt trim

If the distribution block is under the gimbal housing then it must have been replaced at one time which is good. One way to identify the pump you need is on the block under the pump. There will be a Allen 1/8” pipe plug screwed into the side where the “down” port is located. Inside that port...

conversion from teledyne to oildyne tilt trim

If your power trim lines come out from the side of the gimbal housing rather than the bottom like the 70-71 models then you will have to have some hoses custom made to connect to the Alpha style rams. There is a large boat salvage yard here in the New Orleans area that should have what you need.

Where to start? Mercruiser Overheat / Thanks

There is a metered hole in the thermostat housing which will get corroded shut that can cause what you are describing. Sometime the hole is so corroded that it is not visible. Get a new thermostat with the gaskets and scrape out the housing. If you have a friend with a bead blast cabinet would...

Shifting issues alpha 1 gen 1

Since the drive has to be removed to replace the shift cable check for a build up of corrosion in the rear pocket of the bell housing where the shift slider travels for reverse. Sometimes the build up prevents the slider from full movement which will trigger the interrupter switch. At the same...
