    Overheating

It appears that you have a Mercruiser , if not post a picture of the drive. I recognized the Holley distributor. I only have seen them on Ford/Mercruiser 302 models.

Couple of tips for reinstalling a Cobra drive....

Good information and and really helpful Lou. When the Cobra first came out I re powered a customer’s boat. It took us about a half hour to finally get the drive mounted. The rear of the boot was holding the shaft back and we did not want to force the drive on since we were not familiar with...

Water Pump Question - Alpha 1 w/Closed Cooling

I set up my Donzi with the belt driven pump and through hull style connected the drive pump with a “Y” pipe and a sea lever ball valve. That way the drive stays cool and using a ear muff flush out, it is easy to run the engine on the trailer. I have seen transom mounted pick ups and I believe...

    1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 I/O steering issue

Is the steering easy to turn in both directions when the boat is on the trailer In the full down position or in the water not running? If the steering is not binding then look at the marks on the rear of the exhaust outlet. There is 1 which is larger and usually is the best setting. If there...

volvo AQ125B overheating while on plane

Look at the aluminum nipple that feeds water to the transom plate via the rubber hose. It is easy to change with a Allen wrench and a screwdriver with some patience. The other thing if the problem persists will be the “O”ring that seals the lower gear housing to the suspension fork. Tilt...

5.7 Volvo Penta Overheating at Idle

Inside the thermostat housing there should be a small bypass port that that lets water circulate when the thermostat is closed. I have seen them to be either partially or completely plugged with corrosion causing a similar condition.

5.7 Volvo Penta Overheating at Idle

What year and model drive do you have? how long has this been happening? When the temperature goes to 220 on the gauge does it ever go back down if you just let it idle? Do like AD said about using a IR temperature sensor.

Carbed Mercruiser 260 5.7L Missing Above 4000 RPMs

This is something else to check with a flush out. Start the engine then put it in forward, turn off the engine and push the throttle as far as it will go. Go and look at the plate where the shift linkage is, look at the shift interrupter switch with the lever and plastic roller, the roller...

OMC King Cobra won't engage forward gear, but reverse works good

Have you checked the condition of the shift cable going through the transom. Sometimes the outer jacket separates and the cable will not give full stroke. The control box has to move the inner core of the cable 3” from forward to reverse.

    Water in oil...

The thinnest part of the casting is usually at the bottom of the water jacket Inside of the crankcase. You might be able to get a fitted block which comes with main ,cam bearings & pistons with rings. You re use every thing else. Otherwise just get a marine short block. Marine Power in...

What is this and where does it mount?

If you need to get to the lines going to the trim block just remove the 2 1/4” 20 self locking nuts and pry the block down, the gasket may survive but if not you will have to either get a new one or “old school” make one.

What is this and where does it mount?

That is the Alpha style. Unless you already have the Alpha style large rams. Low pressure high volume. Which use larger diameter flexible hoses. You need the opposite which is what you currently have, high pressure low volume.

What is this and where does it mount?

I have been searching around for Prestolite pumps and the later style block that has the reverse lock incorporated. Unfortunately every place I have looked it is NLA. I am sure there is one somewhere. Finding a complete pump will work but the block on the bottom has to have 2, 3/16”inverted...

    Water in oil...

Unfortunately, you have a cracked block. The crack is probably under the intake manifold. You did not say what engine you have and I am just assuming it is a Chevrolet. If there is no crack then there is a pin hole leak somewhere.

What is this and where does it mount?

4.3 V6 flywheel housing. The same dimension for all V style engines from 1971 to current Alpha In line models also. Some Ford model flywheel covers had 2 sets of dowel pins for use with Chevrolet engines.

    Prestolite IBM-4115 replacement

The flat style distributor may not be available but the later style used on OMC and Volvo will fit. The internal parts should also be available from Crowley Marine who stocks obsolete OMC parts. Give it a try before you give up. Chrysler used Prestolite distributors on their auto and marine...

    Prestolite IBM-4115 replacement

If the centrifugal advance is working smoothly in both distributors why not just buy a new pair of Prestolite Ignitors then you would have a spare.

    Prestolite IBM-4115 replacement

You may have to switch to electric tachometers. Mallory would be a good source. Finding a new pair of mechanical tachometer drive distributors could be expensive.
