Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

Found a project with another armor hull set up rirory 2009 http://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat-...uminum-rebuild He had 15 "stringers" made up and installed them. Then Steel flexed the whole boat. They look like ribs to me.

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

Moved the boat from the front forty to the side yard. One step closer to getting to it's hopefully winter storage / work place inside the pole barn. Whole lotta cleaning required for that. GA the sole looks level to me. Actually did a little tear down. The Boat came with side...

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

jbc - it is interesting that they just spanned the laps on the hull on the Medallions when installing the ribs. I have to believe the strakes provided substantial support to keep the hull from flexing fore to aft. cc - Not an engineer, nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but...

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

Boatnut74 has / had a Medallion that he worked on in 2012. The ribs are not notched to fit the lapstuck hull. There are 4 strakes (?) on the hull.

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

The Armor-Hull literature item #2 states smooth welded seams, but the only welding noticed so far is in the splash well.

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

Pretty much figured it was going to be nasty with the soft floor. Not sure if the particle mulch is from a PO or factory engineer. I can picture an engineer thinking - particle board sandwiched between resin coated wood and water "impervious" foam will never degrade!" At least not on...

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

Is there something your not telling me? Once the splash well was out did a little more inspection. The top of the transom wood and face have resin, but not the upper portions. Stops at the corner Pulled the splash out to get a better look at how the floor / hull / transom are put together...

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

After parking it out in the yard a was looking at the transom and noticed water dripping. Poked at a hole in the skin the PO had "sealed" The water ran out in a steady stream. This hole is 3" above the bottom of the transom but is below the drain hole. It is behind the "V" on the outboard...

Lone Star Medallion II 1966, Oh Scrap!

Last week I picked up an old "tin" boat. You can see that here - http://forums.iboats.com/forum/owner...ing-pan-swings Here she is after making it home. Fiberglassics happen to have some info on this boat. The first year for this model and the last year the Lone Star name was used. Being a...

Someone shoot me before the frying pan swings.

JBC - Looks maybe deceiving. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is a non stringer hull. No fasteners on the bottom of the boat. No visible transom supports. Looks like the foam maybe structural and flotation, (like 1973chieftain's Mirrorcraft...

Someone shoot me before the frying pan swings.

I'll post a few pics here. But thinking the restoration thread should be in the restoration section not here in Tin city. Obviously not a SC. We need the powers to be to make a Tin boat restoration section so all the great tin boats can be viewed in one area. Or is this that area? Grabbed...

Someone shoot me before the frying pan swings.

Thanks brush. H20 - Yes Holidayish but saw some unique design items. The first is to figure out what ARMOR-HULL really means. The floor has an epoxy coating tabbed to the hull.:faint2:

Someone shoot me before the frying pan swings.

 I've been seeing a CL ad for a week. Yes it was taunting me. Today I sent a text, and they actually responded. They then sent the address which was 4 miles from where I was working, and on the way home. I just had to stop just take to take a look. Looked her over real good. Most of...

Starcraft 21' Mariner That's no longer for sale

Visited one of the local scrap yards today picking parts for an old mower and snow blower. Looked over in the outboard section and grabbed a lower off a 70's Rude 18hp. Pulley for the mower, carb for the blower and the LU cost $15.00.:) While checking out I asked about one other thing that was...

    The iboats Buck Pole

Michigan's deer bow season opened up today. In honor of that I though it would be nice to have a place for iboater's to show off their horn's and stories (even if they don't have horns). Didn't make it out in the woods, but did spend a few hours with my son sighting in a compound and a...

    Mid 70's Starcraft splashwell removal

Support of the hull is the function of the splashwell. If it is removed something needs to take it's place. Maybe fab up something like this. I see opportunity for livewell, cooler and storage options.

    My inexpensive tow vehicle

Quite often here I see posts saying can I tow this or questioning weight capacity, someone that doesn't really want to get a proper vehicle for towing their boat. I didn't really have that issue, but my old tow vehicle is a 1992 Caprice wagon with 250K on it. It still did the job but was...
