    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

Drill a test hole (2"?) in the deck. If there is water logged foam down there, you've got to pull the deck up to get all of that out.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I got the bench seat installed today. That's the last of the upholstery pieces to install. I also installed the speakers. I had to wait to do this because to install the bench seat, I had to reach through the speaker holes to put the screws in. I didn't get as far along as I'd hope...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks man! It seems like yesterday I was pulling rotten wood out of the hull. I owe a bunch to this forum and a few YouTube channels for giving me the knowledge and confidence to tackle this myself. I'm watching your thread too. 👀

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Nice weather, so I pulled the boat out today to work on it. No pictures, but I fixed the courtesy lighting in the engine bay. Basically I had originally tried to just peel and stick the LED strip to the raw fiberglass - that didn't work and it fell down. I bought more of the aluminum channel...

    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

Samer, before you jump in you need to make sure the stringers and transom are good. Can you get to any of the stringers and low on the transom to drill test holes? A 1989 boat with a plywood deck with no glass that had carpet over it but was not rotten sounds suspiciously like a relatively...

mercruiser 140 low compression & cracked exhaust manifold

Clean it up good and check it with a straight edge and feeler gauge. I don't know what the service limit is, but I've gotta assume it's in the manual. Can't tell from the pic if only the HG got torched or if it got a little of the deck also.

mercruiser 140 low compression & cracked exhaust manifold

Post a picture of the block where the head gasket blew, without the gasket in place. Make sure there is no damage (fire slot) to the block deck in that spot, or you may just blow another gasket.

    Best Oil Extractor

My brother has used a MityVac 7201 for several years and liked it so I bought one for myself. Haven't used it yet though.

    Alpha1 Gen1 reassembly sequence

I followed the order of operations in the manual. I did my entire transom assembly off the boat. The only thing I wish I had waited to do on the boat was torque the bolts for the bell housing to the gimbal ring.

Agreed, a lot of work! It's going to look good in the end, though! Going back with paint or gelcoat?

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks for the kind words. With the days getting longer and warmer, I'm hoping to get back to working on it so I can finish it up! Getting it splashed in November was a good feeling.

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

I'll add that I did have bad luck with one specific boat carpet vendor - they sent me a 4x8 piece when I ordered 20x8. I tried to get them to send the correct size and after several weeks of still no receipt, I cancelled the order. I won't publicly shame them, but if you are curious about who...

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

I chose Sparta Carpets out of Dalton, GA. I'm using their 20 oz cut pile (Bayside). I used Weldwood sprayable contact cement because I'm familiar with it. I will stick to smooth gelcoat as long as there is not wax on the surface. If you go with contact cement, just know there is virtually no...

    2008 3.0L thermostat housing sensors

I've been to Keuka and Seneca and around Cayuga. Beautiful up there in the fall. Not sure I could handle the winter.

Installed a small hand-operated fire extinguisher under the dash. This will complement the halon extinguisher in the engine bay. Also got the port side panel installed in the boat. I still need to install the bench seat and sun pad. Just gotta find the time and warm-enough temps to do it.

Alpha 1 gen 1 water hose

I just rebuilt my Gen 1 last year and bought the kit from Quicksilver. It had the pre-formed hose in it. Part number 30-803097T 1. Pics showed the straight hose, but it came with both straight and pre-formed hoses, and I used the pre-formed one.

    Replacing plywood with solid wood?

I hear that! I about cried when I laid glass over my new engine mounts. I only used it in places where screws were going to be used, though. On my tear-out, I was surprised to find the original center stringer was made of mahogany, but it did it's job. It was soaking wet and still a solid...

Can't see "Adults Only" threads finally fixed

Thought I would share with others who may be having the same issue. I could not see the "Adults Only" threads (links to helpful threads) in the Mercruiser forums after the board updated for some reason. Couldn't figure it out for months until today. It turns out somehow I had the user "Don S"...

    Laying the Deck Questions

You'll be fine. I had two chambers with holes almost 96" apart and it filled fine.
